PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Den Amsinghe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Dee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Den Amsinghe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Dee!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Amsinghe is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dee's half guard.
Amsinghe slows the pace down in half guard.
Amsinghe seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dee for as long as he can get away with.
Dee is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amsinghe looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Amsinghe performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Dee is trying to stand up here but Amsinghe is controlling him well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Amsinghe stalling.
Amsinghe tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dee knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Amsinghe seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Amsinghe is trying to control the action in half guard but Dee is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Amsinghe stops Dee from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Amsinghe wants to take a breather but Dee is having none of it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Amsinghe closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dee circles away.
Dee tries to close the distance and clinch but Amsinghe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Amsinghe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Amsinghe shoots for a takedown but Dee saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Den Amsinghe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Amsinghe or perhaps it was just good defense by Dee which made him look bad.
Dee displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Amsinghe.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amsinghe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dee but Dee pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Den Amsinghe dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Amsinghe shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dee sprawls well. Dee wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Amsinghe gets slowly back to his feet.
Amsinghe looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dee is fending him off so far but Amsinghe persists. Nope, Dee circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amsinghe needs to keep his hands up - Dee had a free shot at his head there.
Dee is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Amsinghe throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dee's waist but Dee gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Amsinghe off to one side.

Dee closes the distance and pushes Amsinghe back into the ropes.
Dee wants a takedown but no success here.
Dee misses with an elbow over the top.
Amsinghe tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dee smiles and moves away.
Dee tries to clinch up.
Amsinghe blocks a head kick by Dee.
Dee stuffs the takedown.
Dee leaves Amsinghe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dee closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Amsinghe did well to prevent Dee getting side control.

Dee seems to be looking for submissions.
Amsinghe keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Amsinghe is staying active underneath Dee, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Dee seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Dee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Amsinghe keeps working.

Dee looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dee is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Dee thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Amsinghe to regain full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Amsinghe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dee to the mat! Dee manages to get full guard.
Amsinghe controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dee is looking to stand back up but Amsinghe counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Dee.
Amsinghe passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Dee!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Dee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Amsinghe misses with a takedown attempt
and Dee counters with a right hand to the body.
Den Amsinghe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dee shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Amsinghe's guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Dee trying to control but Amsinghe is working from the bottom.
Amsinghe looking for a sweep. Not yet Amsinghe, not yet.
Amsinghe pulls Dee in close to prevent any damage.
Dee trying to control the position from guard on top but Amsinghe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dee loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Dee postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Amsinghe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dee, into his guard.
Amsinghe wants to control from the top but Dee keeps moving.

Dee wants to stand up but Amsinghe is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Amsinghe looking to sit in guard and control but Dee gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dee is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Dee with a flurry of punches that miss.
Dee thows a big elbow that misses.
Dee trying to control but Amsinghe is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Dee tries to clinch but Amsinghe is having none of it.
Amsinghe gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dee counters with a right hand to the body.
Dee doesn't manage to clinch there - Amsinghe circles away.
Amsinghe misses with a takedown
and Dee cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Den Amsinghe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dee is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Den Amsinghe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dee seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Amsinghe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Amsinghe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Dee is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Dee is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Amsinghe is just riding it out for now. Dee eventually gives up the hold.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dee is looking for a kimura here.

Jay Dee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
