PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between River Walken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and dan champion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walken's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Flim Star(Suede). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, River Walken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, dan champion!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walken showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from champion.
Walken tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
No joy there for champion, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
champion shoots in for a double leg but Walken sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

champion shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
champion throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walken is working to get back to half guard.
Walken really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

champion goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Walken turns into him and now he's in champion's guard.
champion has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Walken wanted to stand there but champion had control of the position.

champion looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

champion is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

champion has his foot on Walken's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Walken works his way back into a safe position though.

Walken is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

champion bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Walken holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.

champion tries for a kimura but Walken is defending well.

champion tries to stand but Walken is controlling his head.
champion looks gassed!

champion decides to stand up, so the ref orders Walken to his feet.
dan champion seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

champion feints and as Walken raises his hands in defense, champion changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
champion wants to pass the guard but Walken is keeping the position.

champion has gone for a leg lock! Walken slips out almost immediately though and dives into champion's guard.

Walken has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

champion tries to land a sweep but no joy.

champion is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Walken is looking to stand up but champion won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
champion fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Walken avoids it really well and circles away.
champion changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walken tries to avoid it but champion manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walken to the ground. Walken escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
River Walken has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of dan champion.
champion fails with a takedown attempt.
Walken looks to score with a jab to the body but champion is just out of range.

champion gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Walken to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Walken is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Walken drops back looking for a leg! champion is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and champion manages to kick Walken off! Walken jumps back into champion's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but dan champion will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

champion is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Walken defends well.
Walken slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

champion looking for a guillotine here but Walken defends easily.
champion is breathing heavily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from champion is defended easily by Walken.

and Walken counters with a nice kick to the body.
River Walken has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of dan champion.
champion shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Walken counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
champion has a hand on Walken's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Walken takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Walken is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. champion can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Walken can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as champion is looking to escape.
champion wants to control but Walken is having none of it.

champion slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

champion looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Walken pushes past his half guard into mount!
champion wants to hold on but Walken pushes him away.
Walken sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
champion is trying to escape the mount.

champion tries to reverse the position but Walken maintains control.
champion is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Walken with the ground and pound from mount.
River Walken overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
champion is working to get back to half guard.
champion wants to hold on but Walken pushes him away.
Walken controlling from mount.
champion is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

River Walken dominated that second round.

champion has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Walken can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

champion takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now champion is on top in guard.
Walken is adopting a defensive guard.
champion pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Walken is keeping the position for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

champion looking to improve position, pressing down on Walken's thigh with his hand. Walken seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is champion paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! champion's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Walken picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
