Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mergen Kalyaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown fails to land the takedown.

Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kalyaev's waist but Kalyaev gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side.

Mergen Kalyaev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wayne Brown.
Kalyaev tries to clinch up but Brown circles away and keeps his distance.
Brown tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kalyaev sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brown somewhat.
Kalyaev slaps away a takedown attempt from Brown, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Brown shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kalyaev but Kalyaev pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kalyaev is landing with some decent strikes but Brown is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Kalyaev has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Brown's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kalyaev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brown on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kalyaev is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Brown can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Brown moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brown is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
