PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Geoff Deal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darnell Klutie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Geoff Deal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Darnell Klutie!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Klutie throws a half hearted mid kick.
Klutie wants to clinch up but Deal keeps it at a distance.

Deal takes the fight into the clinch.
Deal trying to stall but Klutie improves his position.
Klutie fails to pull guard.
Klutie goes for a takedown attempt but Deal pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Klutie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Deal as he avoids it easily.
Geoff Deal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darnell Klutie.

Klutie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Deal looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Klutie puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Deal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Klutie wants to advance to full mount but Deal doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Klutie wants to control from the top but Deal keeps moving.
Klutie looking to pass the guard.
Klutie controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Deal is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Klutie trying to stand up but can't free himself from Deal's guard.
Klutie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Klutie looking to sit in guard and control but Deal gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Deal trying to control the position from guard on top but Klutie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Klutie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Klutie looks gassed!
Deal wanted to stand there but Klutie had control of the position.
Deal has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Klutie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Deal stands and throws Klutie's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Deal trying to control the action but Klutie is working from the bottom.
Klutie looking for a sweep but Deal has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Deal punishing his opponent with strikes.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Klutie is looking to improve his position but Deal isn't that keen on the idea.
Klutie regains half guard.
Deal slows the pace down in half guard.
Klutie controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Deal seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Darnell Klutie will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Deal shoots in for a takedown but Klutie shows good takedown defense.
Deal throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Klutie.
Deal lands a nice looking kick to the body. Klutie takes a step back to recover.
Klutie goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Klutie tries for a takedown but Deal circles away easily

and Deal counters with a takedown into side control.
Klutie gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Klutie actively working from the bottom here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Deal is tying to control. Klutie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Deal controlling the pace.

Klutie is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Deal pulls his head out easily.
Deal tries to stand but can't do so whilst Klutie controls his leg.
Deal passes to side control.
Klutie is looking for a sweep.
Klutie wants to get back to his feet but Deal is dominant here and he's now got Klutie's back!
Deal lands a nice shot to the head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Klutie is trying desperately to improve position.
Klutie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Klutie manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Klutie is trying to control but can't.
Klutie tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Klutie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Deal is working away from the top position though.

Klutie tries to roll over but Deal keeps him under control.
Klutie looks like he's trying to stand up.

Klutie looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Deal in particular looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Klutie ducks under a wild hook from Deal.
Klutie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Klutie scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Klutie wants to control but Deal is keeping him busy.

Klutie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Klutie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Deal is trying to control Klutie's posture but Klutie avoids it.
Klutie wants to control but Deal is keeping him busy.
Klutie tries to move to mount but Deal blocks the move with his legs.

Klutie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Deal has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Geoff Deal will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Deal looks to score with a jab to the body but Klutie is just out of range.
Klutie has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Deal.
Deal looks to clinch

and Klutie counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Klutie trying to control from half guard but Deal is working away.
Deal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Klutie is stalling here. Deal is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Klutie seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Deal has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Klutie regains half guard.

Klutie trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Deal manages to pass to mount!
Klutie can't escape the position.
Deal wants to control the pace but Klutie is squirming around nicely.
Klutie wants to control but Deal is having none of it.
Klutie is looking to improve his position but Deal isn't that keen on the idea.
Klutie has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Deal's lack of action.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Deal stalling away here and it's allowed Klutie to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Klutie is trying to control the position but Deal postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Deal dodges the punch combination from Klutie.
Klutie gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Deal counters with a takedown into side control.
Deal wants to stand but Klutie is controlling his arm.

Deal working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Darnell Klutie has got the better of the ground game so far.
Klutie is not content to let Deal control the position.

Klutie holds on to Deal's head and controls the position momentarily.
Klutie is trying to improve his position.
Klutie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Deal off and has taken his back!
Klutie is controlling the position but Deal somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Deal is in trouble now - Klutie has advanced to mount!
Klutie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Klutie prevents Deal from getting the reversal.

Klutie is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Deal has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Deal avoids a series of strikes thrown by Klutie.

Klutie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Deal has worked his arm free - good work by Deal!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Darnell Klutie.
I think Klutie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
