The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
gerrard pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Moriarty stuffs the takedown.

gerrard throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Moriarty was covering up waiting for the punch and gerrard finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Moriarty wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as gerrard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Moriarty regains half guard there - taking advantage of gerrard's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
gerrard is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Moriarty bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
gerrard is not content to let Moriarty control the position.
Moriarty might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control gerrard kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Moriarty.

Moriarty is refusing to be controlled, as gerrard sits in half guard.

gerrard is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Moriarty defends it well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

gerrard tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
gerrard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Moriarty for as long as he can get away with.

gerrard tries to clinch but Moriarty is having none of it.
