Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Gailfus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Smeer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smeer is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tool - Parabola. Steven Smeer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Gailfus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Steven Smeer!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smeer moves in looking to clinch but Gailfus pushes him off.
Gailfus looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
A solid body kick from Smeer.
Gailfus takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
A punch combination from Smeer misses.

Smeer moves into range and clinches up with Gailfus.
Smeer scores with a knee to the head.
Smeer lands a nice uppercut.
Smeer connects with a knee to the head.
Smeer is trying to drag Gailfus to the mat but Gailfus just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Smeer lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Gailfus wants to get back to striking at distance but Smeer won't allow it.

Smeer decides to pull guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smeer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gailfus is aware though and is defending well.
Smeer pulls Gailfus in to control the position.

Smeer is looking for a triangle but Gailfus pushes his legs off easily.

Smeer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gailfus defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smeer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gailfus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gailfus tries to stand but Smeer is controlling from the bottom.
Gailfus trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Smeer uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Smeer scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Smeer shoots in but Gailfus avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smeer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gailfus swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smeer closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Smeer shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
John Gailfus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Smeer.
Gailfus swings for the body but Smeer moves out of range.
Smeer tries for a takedown but Gailfus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gailfus shoots in but no luck this time.
Smeer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Smeer - that will leave a mark!

Gailfus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Smeer is trying to control the position but Gailfus postures up.
Gailfus is looking to work some ground and pound but Smeer has wrist control.

Smeer wants to get back to his feet but Gailfus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Smeer tries to kick Gailfus off but Gailfus keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gailfus content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steven Smeer dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Smeer lands with a kick to the ribs.
Steven Smeer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smeer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gailfus decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smeer's guard.
Smeer manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gailfus manages to get himself to full guard.

Smeer gets to his feet. Gailfus looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Smeer moves into the clinch successfully.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Gailfus wants the takedown. Smeer is fighting it off but Gailfus persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Smeer's guard against the cage.

Gailfus decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Gailfus shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smeer as he avoids it easily.

Smeer gets a clinch.
Smeer lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gailfus backwards.
Smeer drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gailfus gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Smeer lands an elbow inside that Gailfus shrugs off.
Gailfus changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smeer fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Danga de danga de dang - Smeer scores with a four punch combination!
Smeer throws a sloppy head kick and Gailfus moves out of range easily.
Gailfus takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Gailfus feints and as Smeer raises his hands in defense, Gailfus changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Gailfus dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Smeer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Gailfus is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Smeer lands a heavy elbow.

Gailfus is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gailfus is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smeer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Smeer is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gailfus to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gailfus shrugs it off.
Gailfus gets back to half guard.
John Gailfus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smeer tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gailfus.

Gailfus is positioning himself well to prevent Smeer advancing to mount.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Smeer is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gailfus sees it coming and defends easily.

Smeer is working for a kimura but Gailfus is defending it quite comfortably.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gailfus closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Gailfus showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Gailfus has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
