PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Top Shottah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mason has chosen White Zombie - Electric Head Pt. 1 as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Top Shottah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Mason!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, David Schapiro and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason tries to clinch up but Shottah circles away and keeps his distance.
Mason shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shottah but Shottah pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mason tries to clinch but Shottah moves out of range.
Shottah keeps the fight on the outside.
Mason wants to clinch.
Shottah misses with a series of wild punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shottah doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Mason counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Mason is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Shottah is surviving well by controlling Mason's body position as best he can.

Mason jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Shottah manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mason advances to full mount.

Mason is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Shottah avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mason is looking to clinch but Shottah is avoiding it.

Mason throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mason seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Let's hope that Mason has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mason slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jay Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looks like Top Shottah has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jay Mason just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mason is looking to clinch.
Mason explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Mason tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shottah paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mason changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shottah looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Shottah is trying to escape the position but Mason is controlling the position.

Mason has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Shottah is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mason yanks on the arm and Shottah is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mason.
