PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hollis Damon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Bitter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hollis Damon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Franklin Bitter!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bitter shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Damon sprawls well. Damon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bitter gets slowly back to his feet.
Damon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Damon tries to close the distance and clinch but Bitter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bitter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Damon as he jumps to the side.
No luck for Bitter with that takedown attempt.
Hollis Damon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Franklin Bitter.

Damon closes the distance and clinches.
Bitter tries to pull guard but Damon holds him up against the cage and eventually Bitter drops back down to his feet.
Bitter fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bitter jumps guard but Damon stands there with Bitter around his waist. Bitter gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Damon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Damon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bitter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Damon moves into range and clinches up with Bitter.
Damon lands a shot to the body.
A shot in the inside from Damon.
Bitter looks gassed!
Bitter's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Bitter tries to pull guard but Damon holds him up against the cage and eventually Bitter drops back down to his feet.

Damon manages to break the clinch.

Damon has managed to clinch.

Damon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Damon has taken the fight to the clinch.

Damon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Damon moves into the clinch.
Bitter fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Damon lands an elbow that stopped Bitter in his tracks for a moment.
Bitter takes an elbow to the forehead.

Damon has Bitter pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Damon pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Bitter tumbling to the mat - Damon dives into Bitter's guard.
Damon wants to get up but he can't break Bitter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Damon gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Bitter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Damon to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Damon keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bitter's head.
Damon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Bitter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Damon rushes Bitter and presses him up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Damon gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Damon gets to his feet - Bitter follows without any prompting.
Damon cracks Bitter with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Damon moves into range and clinches up with Bitter.

Damon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Damon shoots in and bounces Bitter off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Bitter working for a triangle but Damon defends it easily.
Damon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Damon slips nicely into half guard.

Damon drops an elbow to the side of Bitter's head.
Damon seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Damon looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bitter with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Damon is nestled in close to Bitter, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hollis Damon dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Damon drives through and clinches with Bitter against the cage.
Damon lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Bitter jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Damon walks away with a smile on his face. Bitter gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Damon gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Damon manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Bitter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Damon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Damon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Damon wants to stand but Bitter is controlling the position.

Bitter postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Damon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bitter, into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Damon is working hard here to advance position.
Damon distracts Bitter with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Damon stands up and waves to Bitter to follow him.

Damon feints and as Bitter raises his hands in defense, Damon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Damon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bitter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hollis Damon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Damon scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Bitter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Bitter tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Damon working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Damon tries for a kimura but Bitter is defending well.
Bitter manages to work his way to half guard, despite Damon's best efforts.
Damon landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Bitter has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Damon. Oh but Bitter has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Damon goes limp - he's gone! Bitter jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
