PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Goodnight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nav Dhanju (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Goodnight comes to the cage accompanied by Sweet Dreams . We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goodnight swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dhanju is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Goodnight.

It looks like Nav Dhanju has been cut.
Dhanju throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Goodnight's waist but Goodnight gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dhanju off to one side.

Goodnight throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dhanju was covering up waiting for the punch and Goodnight finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Dhanju pushes Goodnight off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Goodnight darts in and clinches Dhanju up against the cage.

Dhanju has Goodnight pressed against the cage, preventing Goodnight from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Dhanju wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Goodnight is trying to force a seperation but Dhanju has the dominant position.

Goodnight escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dhanju tries to work over Goodnight's front leg with a kick but Goodnight checks it.

Dhanju closes the distance and clinches.
Dhanju jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Goodnight walks away with a smile on his face. Dhanju gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Goodnight fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dhanju avoids it really well and circles away.
Goodnight tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dhanju swivels and escapes.
Goodnight throws a right hand that Dhanju ducks under and follows up with a left that Dhanju also avoids with ease.
Jacob Goodnight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Goodnight moves in looking to clinch but Dhanju pushes him off.

Goodnight is breathing heavily.

Dhanju clinches with his opponent.
Dhanju takes an elbow to the forehead.
Dhanju tries a knee to the head but Goodnight blocks it.
Dhanju tries to break the clinch but Goodnight is controlling the position.

Goodnight jumps guard but Dhanju stands there with Goodnight around his waist. Goodnight gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Dhanju escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dhanju tries to close the distance and clinch but Goodnight swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Goodnight throws a left and a right that both miss

and Dhanju counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Goodnight is refusing to be controlled, as Dhanju sits in half guard.

Dhanju looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Dhanju seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Goodnight does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Dhanju is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Goodnight is just riding it out for now. Dhanju eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Jacob Goodnight will probably get the nod.

Goodnight throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Dhanju counters with a shoot takedown. Goodnight fights it but they end up in guard.

Dhanju stands up from Goodnight's guard - Dhanju perhaps looking for a knockout.
Goodnight keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Goodnight lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Goodnight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dhanju tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Goodnight swivels and escapes.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dhanju slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Goodnight holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Dhanju tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Dhanju postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Goodnight looks a forlorn figure.

Goodnight is squirming around, avoiding Dhanju's attempts to control the action.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dhanju wants to control the pace but Goodnight is squirming around nicely.
Dhanju is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Goodnight can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Goodnight tries to reverse the position but Dhanju maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A close second round but Nav Dhanju will probably get the nod - 10:9.

No joy there for Goodnight, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Goodnight throws a combination. Dhanju tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Goodnight is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Dhanju has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Goodnight being controlled for a moment.
Goodnight is looking for a sweep.
Goodnight knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dhanju on the ground.
Goodnight takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Dhanju wants to control but Goodnight is keeping him busy.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Goodnight falls off balance throwing a combination

and Dhanju counters with a shoot takedown. Goodnight fights it but they end up in guard.

Dhanju might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Goodnight kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Goodnight on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Goodnight tries to get out of the position.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Dhanju. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Dhanju decides to stand back up. Dhanju steps back and let's Goodnight get back to his feet.

and Goodnight counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Goodnight.

Nice takedown defense from Goodnight. No joy for Dhanju on that attempt.
