PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Dukes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Padraig Keane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Dukes!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Padraig Keane!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dukes fails with a takedown attempt.
Padraig Keane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Keane, right into the meat.
Keane catches Dukes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Dukes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Keane pinned against the cage. Keane gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dukes has a takedown stuffed.

Dukes shoots for a double leg takedown but Keane sprawls well. He's pushed Dukes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Keane stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Keane wants it to stay on the feet.

Keane is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dukes tries to clinch but Keane is having none of it.
Keane with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Dukes wants to control from the top but Keane keeps moving.
Dukes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Keane works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dukes postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Dukes won't allow Keane to get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Dukes drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Keane dives on top into guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Frank Dukes will probably get the nod.

Dukes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dukes tries to lock up and control but Keane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Keane scores with a one two! Dukes had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Frank Dukes has been cut.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dukes chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Keane can pounce on him.
Keane lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Keane.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Keane cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Keane falls off balance throwing a combination
and Dukes counters with a three punch combo that has Keane backing up. Keane nods at Dukes to acknowledge the strikes.
Keane lets loose with a powerful body kick. Dukes will feel that in the morning.
Keane bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Keane connects with a high kick.


Dukes is rocked!
Keane scores with a kick to the body.
Oh Dukes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Dukes seems to have got his legs back now.
Keane throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dukes.

and Keane counters with a huge head kick that drops Dukes! The ref dives in to stop the fight and the crowd goes wild!
