PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Mordant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arne Weisse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arne Weisse told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vladimir Mordant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mordant gets the takedown into side control.
Weisse is looking for a sweep.

Mordant tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Mordant swings around for an armbar but Weisse sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mordant's guard.
Weisse is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Weisse stops Mordant from standing up.
Weisse looking to pass the guard.

Mordant is looking to stand up but Weisse isn't so interested in that idea.
Mordant keeping full guard, as Weisse tries to pass.

Weisse drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mordant dives on top into guard.
Mordant works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Weisse wants to control but Mordant is keeping busy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Weisse won't allow Mordant to pass to mount.
Weisse is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Weisse is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mordant pulls his head out easily.
Still in half guard, Mordant seems content to control.

Mordant is looking for a kimura but Weisse is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mordant to get the leverage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A bone on bone clash there as Mordant blocks the leg kick.
Mordant shoots in looking for a takedown. Weisse tries to sprawl out of it but Mordant keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Weisse manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Mordant counters with a shoot takedown. Weisse fights it but they end up in guard.
Weisse is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Weisse is looking for a kimura here.
Weisse looks gassed!

Mordant is trying to stand up here but Weisse is controlling him well.
Weisse is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Mordant won't allow Weisse to pass to mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Weisse is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Weisse is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mordant has managed to free his arm - good work.
Weisse is stalling here. Mordant is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Weisse seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mordant has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Weisse misses with a takedown attempt

and Mordant counters with a single leg into guard. Weisse didn't expect that.
Mordant trying to control the position from guard on top but Weisse is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mordant trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mordant stopping the sweep attempt from Weisse.
Weisse has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Weisse is trying to keep Mordant in close.
Mordant is pushing down on Weisse's leg trying to pass to half guard. Weisse is fighting to maintain full guard but Mordant has managed to sneak the leg through.

Weisse is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mordant pulls his head out easily.

Mordant prevents Weisse from improving his position.
Mordant is looking to advance position but Weisse won't allow it.
Weisse wants to improve his position but Mordant is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mordant is pressing down on Weisse's thigh, looking to free his foot. Weisse is holding on for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mordant shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Weisse is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Weisse is breathing heavily.
Mordant slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Weisse is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Mordant frees his head nicely. Oh but Weisse has switched to an armbar! Mordant is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
