The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Tyler shoots for a takedown but Hicken saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bret Hicken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tyler tries to close the distance and clinch but Hicken swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Hicken seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tyler does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Tyler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hicken is working away from the top position though.

Hicken is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Tyler swings wildly with an uppercut but Hicken uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hicken is trying to break the clinch but Tyler is controlling him.

Hicken is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Tyler wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Hicken works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Hicken throws a strike but Tyler rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Hicken on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hicken tries to get out of the position.
Tyler wants to control from the top but Hicken keeps moving.
Hicken pulls Tyler in close to prevent any damage.

Hicken changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tyler tries to avoid it but Hicken manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tyler to the ground. Tyler escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Hicken cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Tyler creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hicken sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Tyler gets to his feet - Hicken follows without any prompting.
Hicken leaves Tyler with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hicken tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tyler was well out of range. Poor timing from Hicken.
Hicken lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Hicken lands a lovely overhand right.
Tyler walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Tyler is still on wobbly legs! Can Hicken finish him?
Hicken throws a leg kick but Tyler moved away.
Hicken fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Tyler to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Tyler looks to clinch but Hicken throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Tyler taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
