Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Veneracion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Veneracion is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by faint. Karl Veneracion has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Gomi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Veneracion will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Gomi tries to close the distance and clinch but Veneracion swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Gomi gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Veneracion is pressed up against the cage. Gomi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Veneracion down to the mat. Veneracion avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Veneracion shoots in for a takedown but Gomi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Veneracion is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Veneracion thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Veneracion has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Gomi is looking to stand up but Veneracion isn't so interested in that idea.
Gomi trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Veneracion is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Veneracion stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gomi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Veneracion kicks Gomi off and gets back to his feet.
Gomi misses with a series of wild punches.

Gomi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Veneracion on the ground.

Gomi manages to work his way to half guard, despite Veneracion's best efforts.

Gomi wants to get back to his feet but Veneracion is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Veneracion is pushing down on Gomi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gomi is fighting to maintain full guard but Veneracion has managed to sneak the leg through.

Gomi has hold of Veneracion's hands but Veneracion slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gomi tries to clinch up but Veneracion circles away and keeps his distance.

Gomi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Veneracion is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Gomi is tapping! Great win for Veneracion!
