Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gage Ruehlen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James york!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot lands for Ruehlen.
york looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Ruehlen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ruehlen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Ruehlen gets to his feet. york looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ruehlen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

york swats away the attempt to clinch by Ruehlen.

Ruehlen clinches up against the cage.

Ruehlen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ruehlen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ruehlen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruehlen stands and throws york's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Ruehlen stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Ruehlen has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but york regains guard immediately.

Ruehlen tries to bum rush york with a series of wild strikes but york uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Ruehlen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ruehlen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in york's guard.
Ruehlen stands and throws york's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Ruehlen is trying to get an arm triangle but york is defending well.

york fails with the takedown

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Ruehlen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in york's guard.
Gage Ruehlen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
york can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ruehlen controls the pace.
Ruehlen passes into half guard.
Ruehlen wants to pass to mount but york is defending the position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ruehlen frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ruehlen wants to finish this one by submission but york is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ruehlen.
Poor strikes thrown by Ruehlen there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

york really wants to buck Ruehlen off and get back to his feet.

Ruehlen stands up from mount. Strange move.

Ruehlen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with york, pushing him back against the cage.

Ruehlen gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
york wants to stand and escape but Ruehlen is having none of it.
york keeping full guard, as Ruehlen tries to pass.
Ruehlen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ruehlen throws a big right hand that misses.

Ruehlen stands and steps away. york gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
york throws a leg kick but Ruehlen sees it coming and moves out of range.
Ruehlen tries to clinch but york is having none of it.
Ruehlen slips under a jab from york.
york avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Ruehlen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ruehlen.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Ruehlen shoots in and bounces york off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Ruehlen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Ruehlen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ruehlen wants to stand but york has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ruehlen stays in close to york's body and controls the position.

Ruehlen stands and steps away. york gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ruehlen rushes york and presses him up against the cage.
Ruehlen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that york can do to turn this around?
york drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ruehlen pulls his leg out and moves away.

Ruehlen scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Ruehlen tries to stand and escape but york is controlling the position.
Ruehlen is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, york manages to get to full guard.
york is looking to stand up but Ruehlen isn't so interested in that idea.

Ruehlen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ruehlen gets to his feet. york looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
york throws a leg kick

and Ruehlen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in york's guard.
Ruehlen trying to control but york is working from the bottom.
Gage Ruehlen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ruehlen trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but york manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
york trying to control the position from guard on top but Ruehlen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ruehlen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for york on the ground.
york stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruehlen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gage Ruehlen showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ruehlen has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
