Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Tretow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garrett Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tretow's entrance music is Days of Thunder. A fine choice. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Tretow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Garrett Day!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tretow tries to score a power double leg takedown but Day sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tretow somewhat.
Day moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Tretow tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Day swivels and escapes.
Tretow takes one on the button.
Tretow dodges the punch combination from Day.
Day shoots in for a takedown but Tretow shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Day takes a swing at Tretow's ribcage but misses.
Tretow throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Day cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Tretow fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tretow steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Day.
Some wild striking there from Tretow.
A swing and a miss from Day.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Day will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Day throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Day looks to land a right hand but Tretow moved out of range.
Tretow misses the shot to the body.
Tretow is looking to score with low kicks.
Tretow keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Tretow moves out of range of the strikes.
Day misses with a double jab

and Tretow counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Day trying to keep a closed guard but Tretow is proving a slippery customer.
Day might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Tretow kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Day looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Day can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tretow controls the pace.
Tretow tries to free his leg and advance position but Day is retaining full guard.
Tretow seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Day is trying to keep Tretow in close.

Day is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tretow controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Day tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tretow being controlled here momentarily.
Tretow will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tretow wants to stand but Day has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Tretow got a little sloppy there for a moment and Day has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tretow has managed to get both his arms back between Day's legs - danger averted.

Day has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tretow can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Tretow wants to stand but Day is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Garrett Day will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Day swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Tretow makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Day really felt that one!
Tretow falls off balance throwing a combination
and Day counters with a left to the body.
Day looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Day looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Day throws a looping overhand right but Tretow ducks down to avoid it.
Tretow showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Day.
Tretow tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Tretow throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Day was covering up waiting for the punch and Tretow finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Day is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Day is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tretow is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tretow has escaped and now he's on top!
Day tries to strike from the bottom.

Day has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Tretow off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Day scores with a jab to the body.
Tretow moves out of range of the strikes.

Tretow forces Day back against the cage and clinches.

Tretow jumps into guard, dragging Day to the mat.
Day trying to control the position from guard on top but Tretow is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Day stopping the sweep attempt from Tretow.
Day is pushing down on Tretow's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tretow is fighting to maintain full guard but Day has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Day scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Day seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tretow does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Day working over Tretow with some ground and pound. Tretow looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Day is working for a kimura but Tretow is defending it quite comfortably.

Day is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Day prevents Tretow from standing back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tretow is refusing to be controlled, as Day sits in half guard.
Day thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Tretow is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Day pulls his head out easily.
Day looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Day is working for a kimura but Tretow is defending it quite comfortably.
Day drops an elbow to the side of Tretow's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garrett Day showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


A punch combination from Day misses.
Day is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Tretow really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Day closes the distance but Tretow moves to the side
and Tretow counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Day misses with a straight left.
Day throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tretow sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Day misses with a hook. Tretow ducked under it nicely.
Day sizes up Tretow with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Day misses with the combination.
Day takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Day throws a series of punches but Tretow moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tretow is looking to clinch.
Day swats away the attempt to clinch by Tretow.
Tretow misses with a body kick.
Tretow takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Day will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Day checks a low kick from Tretow.
Day thows a leg kick but Tretow checks it

and Tretow counters with a nice double leg into side control. Day won't be happy with that.
Tretow in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Day is looking for a sweep.
Garrett Day is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Tretow trying to control the action but Day is working from the bottom.
Day is trying to control Tretow's posture but Tretow avoids it.
Day is trying to get back to half guard.
Dennis Tretow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Day manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tretow's best efforts.

Day makes his way to full guard, as Tretow worked for a kimura.
Tretow wants to pass the guard but Day is keeping the position.
Day controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Day is on top in guard.

Day decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Day falls off balance throwing a combination
and Tretow counters with an inside leg kick.
Tretow walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Day lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tretow circles away quickly and effectively.
Tretow tries to clinch up but Day circles away and keeps his distance.
Day keeps the fight on the outside.
Day swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tretow moves out of range of the body kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dennis Tretow.
I think Day has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
