PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riley Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Riley Cote!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs misses with a looping right.
Riggs lands a with a good body shot.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cote.

Cote moves into the clinch successfully.
Riggs tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cote just stands there and leans against the cage.
Cote lands a body shot in the clinch.
Riggs is pressed up against the cage. Cote has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Riggs down to the mat. Riggs avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Cote slips a jab and a cross from Riggs.
Riggs sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Cote circles away from the clinch attempt

and Cote counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Riggs's guard now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Riggs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Riggs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cote on the ground.

Riggs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cote is aware though and is defending well.

Riggs has his foot on Cote's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cote works his way back into a safe position though.

Riggs looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Riggs is breathing heavily.
Cote passes Riggs's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Cote is looking for a kimura but Riggs is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cote to get the leverage.
Cote looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Cote wants to work for an arm triangle but Riggs is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cote is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Riggs tries to strike from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Riggs controls Cote momentarily but Cote frees himself.
Riggs is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cote is controlling him.

Cote decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Riggs, up you get!

Riggs looks to clinch

and Cote counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cote.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Riggs is on top in guard.

Cote escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Riggs gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Riggs wanted to stand there but Cote had control of the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Cote has his feet on Riggs's thighs here. He's pushed Riggs off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Riggs screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
