PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Thortnon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duncan comes into the arena with Haka blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tom Duncan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Thortnon!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thortnon swats away the attempt to clinch by Duncan.
Thortnon looks to land a combination but Duncan avoids it well.
Duncan connects with a looping right hand.


It looks like Joe Thortnon has been cut.
Thortnon missing with a left hand there. Duncan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Duncan swats away the attempt to clinch by Thortnon.
Thortnon avoids the body shot from Duncan.
Thortnon throws a combination. Duncan tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Thortnon thows a body shot but no joy.
Thortnon doesn't manage to clinch there - Duncan circles away.
Thortnon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Duncan takes the fight into the clinch.
Duncan scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Duncan is pushing Thortnon up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duncan tries to land knees in the clinch but Thortnon avoids the damage to the body.
A right hand to the body from Duncan.

Thortnon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Joe Thortnon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Duncan clinches up against the cage.
A right hook to the body lands for Duncan.
Duncan taking a breather.
Duncan lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Thortnon.
Duncan scores with a hook to the body.
Thortnon looks gassed!
Thortnon takes a shot to the head.
Duncan creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Thortnon's defenses.


That has opened up Joe Thortnon's cut even more.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duncan works on Thortnon's body with a couple of short punches.
Duncan is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Thortnon's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!


The cut above Joe Thortnon's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
A body shot lands from Duncan.
Duncan holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Duncan scores with a hook to the body.
Duncan leaning his opponent against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Tom Duncan.
A punch combination from Duncan misses.
Thortnon clinches but Duncan breaks the clinch

and Duncan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Thortnon wants to get back to striking at distance but Duncan won't allow it.
Duncan controlling the action here for a moment.
Good body shot from Duncan.
Duncan stalling.
Duncan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Thortnon gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Knees to the body from Duncan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nice body punch from Duncan - that landed with a thud.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee is keeping an eye on Duncan - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Duncan lands an elbow inside that Thortnon shrugs off.


Joe Thortnon's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Joe Thortnon's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Tom Duncan!
