Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Van Halen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Halen's entrance music is Here I Go Again. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Van Halen does it's job there.


It looks like Max Power has been cut.

Power looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Van Halen!
Power looking to control but Van Halen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Van Halen wants to control but Power is having none of it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Van Halen is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Power trying to control but Van Halen is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Van Halen manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Van Halen, under a barage of strikes from Power.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Power throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Van Halen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Power got a little sloppy there for a moment and Van Halen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Power has managed to get both his arms back between Van Halen's legs - danger averted.
Van Halen is breathing heavily.
Power wants to control from the top but Van Halen keeps moving.

Power working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Power wants to control from the top but Van Halen keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Power scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Max Power seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Power avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Power lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Van Halen circles away quickly and effectively.
Van Halen tries to close the distance and clinch but Power swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Van Halen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Power but Power pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Van Halen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Power misses with a double jab
and Van Halen counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Van Halen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Power swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Van Halen throws a body punch but Power moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Power dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Max Power's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Van Halen scores with a crisp jab that stopped Power in his tracks.
Van Halen shoots in for a takedown but Power shows good takedown defense.
Van Halen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Power counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Power swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Power falls off balance throwing a combination
and Van Halen counters with a three punch combo that has Power backing up. Power nods at Van Halen to acknowledge the strikes.
Van Halen drops his hands momentarily and Power takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.


It looks like Jon Van Halen has been cut.
Van Halen is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Power.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Van Halen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Power is not content to let Van Halen control the position.
Power is trying to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Power landing strikes from the bottom.

Van Halen is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Power defends it well.
Power makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Power.
Power tries to strike from the bottom.
Power tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Power keeping moving, preventing Van Halen from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Van Halen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Max Power seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Van Halen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Power counters with a nice uppercut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Van Halen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Power misses with a double jab

and Van Halen counters by clinching up.
Power is looking to break free of the clinch but Van Halen has double underhooks.
Van Halen has Power pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Power manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Power escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Power lands with an overhand left.
Power stuffs the takedown attempt from Van Halen. Van Halen gets slowly back to his feet.
Power lands with a nice combination. Van Halen backs away looking to recover.
Power feints and then cracks Van Halen's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Van Halen down.
Power changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Power misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Van Halen.

Van Halen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Van Halen postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Power keeping his opponent close.

Power struggling a bit here.

Van Halen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Power is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Van Halen off and has taken his back!
Van Halen looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Power doesn't have the hooks in and Van Halen manages to turn into his guard.

Van Halen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Power wants to stand and escape but Van Halen is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Van Halen lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Power tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Power looking to control.
Van Halen trying to control the position from guard on top but Power is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Power circles away from the clinch attempt
and Power counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Power shoots in for a takedown but Van Halen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Van Halen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Van Halen misses with an attempted mid kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Power connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Power ducks right into an uppercut from Van Halen.

Power gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Van Halen to score an easy takedown into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Power showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Power closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Van Halen to the mat! Van Halen manages to get full guard.
Power trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Van Halen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Power stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Van Halen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Power pushing down on Van Halen's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Van Halen wants to get back to full guard.
Power wants to free his trapped foot but Van Halen is holding on for dear life with his legs.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Power throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Van Halen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Power throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Van Halen counters with a shoot takedown. Power fights it but they end up in guard.
Power is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Power working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Van Halen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Power wants to pass to mount but Van Halen is defending the position.
Power is keen to just control but Van Halen is a slippery customer.
Van Halen is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Van Halen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Power is working away from the top position though.
Van Halen looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Van Halen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Power will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Power scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Power defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Van Halen.
Power smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Power throws a series of strikes that have Van Halen backpedaling.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

I would just about give that final round to Max Power.
