PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between ohene appiah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anton Tewal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, ohene appiah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anton Tewal!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tewal closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. appiah did well to prevent Tewal getting side control.
Tewal throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
appiah moves into full guard.
Tewal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. appiah swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tewal is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

appiah not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
appiah shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

appiah's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tewal shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. appiah manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tewal tries to free his leg and advance position but appiah is retaining full guard.

appiah is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tewal is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Tewal throws a strike but appiah rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tewal can do anything to dispel that myth.
appiah stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tewal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
appiah wants to control from the top but Tewal keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

so Tewal counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Tewal must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
appiah is breathing heavily.

Tewal wants to get up but he can't break appiah's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Tewal looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Tewal wants to stand up but appiah has a hold of him and won't allow it.
appiah wants to improve his position but Tewal is controlling well.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

appiah utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
appiah is trying to control the position but Tewal postures up.
Tewal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with appiah. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tewal wants to get up but he can't break appiah's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

appiah had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tewal defends it easily.
Tewal slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now appiah is on top in guard.

appiah looking to sit in guard and control but Tewal gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Tewal lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that ohene appiah will probably get the nod.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
appiah looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

appiah rushes Tewal and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Tewal leaning against his opponent.
appiah is trying to maintain a safe position but Tewal gets an underhook and turns appiah into the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anton Tewal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tewal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
