PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Cash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Gravel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adam Cash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Gravel!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Cash.
Cash has a takedown stuffed.
Cash fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gravel looks for a takedown but Cash sprawls well.
Cash fails with the takedown

and Gravel counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adam Cash. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gravel controlling from the top position.
Cash is trying to control the position but Gravel postures up.
Gravel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cash swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gravel would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Gravel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gravel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gravel prevents Cash from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they both work up against the meshing.

Cash lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gravel!
Cash avoids the attempt from Gravel to control.
Gravel is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gravel keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cash wants to control the pace but Gravel is squirming around nicely.
Gravel tries to hold on but Cash pushes him away.
Cash can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gravel is looking to escape.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cash has hold of Gravel's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gravel manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gravel gets back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gravel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cash tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Cash trying to control from half guard but Gravel is working away.
Cash wants to stand up but Gravel has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Cash is breathing heavily.
Gravel wants to control but Cash is keeping busy.

Gravel pushes Cash off and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cash tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Gravel counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cash won't be happy with that.
Gravel trying to control the action but Cash is working from the bottom.
Cash is looking for a sweep.
Cash can't do much from the bottom here.

Gravel tries for a kimura but Cash is defending well.
Cash is trying to improve his position.
Cash can't do much from the bottom here.

Gravel stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Gravel dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Gravel fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Gravel drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cash looking to control.
Gravel sitting in guard here, content to control.
Gravel distracts Cash with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cash wants to sweep but no luck.
Cash not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gravel passes Cash's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gravel thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cash's head.
Gravel is breathing heavily.
Gravel prevents Cash from standing back up.
Gravel is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Gravel connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Cash manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Gravel winds up and cracks Cash with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cash wants to control but Gravel is keeping busy.
Cash is not content to let Gravel control the position.
Cash slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gravel keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cash's head.

Gravel postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cash is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gravel, into his guard.

Cash stands and steps away. Gravel gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Cash lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Gravel backs up against the cage.


It looks like Mike Gravel has been cut.
Cash keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cash looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Gravel gets a clinch.
Gravel wants a takedown but no success here.
Adam Cash has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Gravel.
Cash wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Gravel goes for a takedown attempt but Cash pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Cash misses with a takedown attempt - Gravel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Gravel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Gravel gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Cash closes the distance but Gravel moves to the side

and Gravel counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cash won't be happy with that.
Gravel advances nicely into full mount.

Gravel stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Cash doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gravel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gravel is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Cash is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mike Gravel has got the better of the ground game so far.

Cash is trying to stand back up but Gravel is controlling him

Gravel decides to stand and escape the position.
Adam Cash is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cash clinches.
Cash tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gravel just stands there and leans against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Gravel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Gravel is nestled in close to Cash, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gravel is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Cash!

Gravel wants to pass the guard but Cash is keeping the position.

Gravel decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Cash shoots and misses

and Gravel counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gravel.

Cash is looking for a triangle but Gravel pushes his legs off easily.
Gravel slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Gravel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cash keeps working.
Cash is trying to control Gravel's posture but Gravel avoids it.

Gravel has hold of Cash's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Cash tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Gravel cranks the arm and Cash screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Cash, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Mike Gravel!
