PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Muhamad Alli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arturo Cano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Alli might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to De la Souls, by POS. Cano is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Disembodied. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alli loads up on a big right hand but Cano slips the punch.
Cano bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Cano chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Alli can pounce on him.
Alli misses the shot to the body.
A combination from Alli does no damage.
Alli lands a really nice looking cross but Cano seems unphased.
Alli tries to clinch up but Cano circles away and keeps his distance.

Alli missing with a left hand there. Cano was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Cano swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Alli does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Cano shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alli as he avoids it easily.

Cano displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alli throws out the jab.

Alli fails to land with a series of punches.

Alli throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Cano shoots in for a takedown but Alli shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Muhamad Alli has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arturo Cano.

Alli feints and then cracks Cano's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cano down.

Alli is concentrating on defense, preventing Cano from advancing position.

Cano wants to control from the top but Alli keeps moving.

Cano tries to free his leg and advance position but Alli is retaining full guard.

Alli is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cano is controlling him.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cano is trying to control the position but Alli postures up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Alli breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cano slips a jab from Alli.
Cano looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

and Cano counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cano.

Alli manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Alli wants to control but Cano is keeping busy.
Cano works his way into side control.
Cano in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Cano is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alli has escaped the position, nice work there.
Alli is trying to improve his position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cano wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alli keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cano fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Alli avoids it really well and circles away.
Cano avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Cano steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Alli.
Cano moves out of range as Alli strikes.

so Cano counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Alli manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Alli throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alli tries to control but Cano wriggling away.
Alli will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Alli is landing with some decent strikes but Cano is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Alli jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Cano is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Cano and Alli has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
