The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vendt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Makaaja is trying to improve his position.

Vendt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Makaaja to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Makaaja gets the takedown into side control.
Makaaja wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vendt keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vendt tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Makaaja wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Vendt is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Makaaja is controlling the pace.
