PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Huber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heywood Hardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Hardy's choice of entrance music: Safety Dance. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hardy looks to land a combination but Huber avoids it well.
Huber fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Huber decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hardy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Huber's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Huber's back!
Hardy is punishing Huber with strikes - can he finish him?!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hardy tries to keep control of the position but Huber is staying busy.

Huber manages to reverse the position and now he's in Hardy's guard. Nice work there by Huber.
Huber wants to get up but he can't break Hardy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Huber drops back looking for a leg! Hardy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hardy manages to kick Huber off! Huber jumps back into Hardy's guard.

Hardy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Huber is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hardy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Huber's back instead.
Huber tries to roll but Hardy sticks to his back.
Hardy has Huber flattened out and is raining down punches.

Hardy is persistently looking for the submission but Huber is defending it well.
Hardy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Huber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Huber turns into Hardy and is now in his guard.
Huber tries to free his leg and advance position but Hardy is retaining full guard.
Huber lands a couple of decent looking shots.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Huber drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Huber jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hardy throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Huber would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hardy bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Hardy lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Huber has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Huber and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Huber tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hardy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Huber shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Huber jumps guard but Hardy stands there with Huber around his waist. Huber gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Huber cracks Hardy with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Huber tries to clinch there but Hardy circles away.

and Hardy makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Huber throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hardy's waist but Hardy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Huber off to one side.

Huber is looking to clinch but Hardy is avoiding it.

A nice glancing elbow lands by Huber.
Huber misses with a hook from the clinch.
Huber goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Huber wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Huber fails to pull guard.
Huber tries to pull guard but Hardy won't allow it.
Huber has a couple of punches blocked by Hardy.

Hardy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Huber shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hardy pinned against the cage. Hardy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hardy throws a low kick, looking for Huber's leg but Huber calmly moves out of range.
Huber bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hardy's head.

Huber throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Donk. Huber catches Hardy right on the button with a cross.
Huber sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Hardy thows a body kick. Huber tries to catch it but that hurt him.

and Hardy counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Hardy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hardy needs to keep his hands up - Huber had a free shot at his head there.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Huber wants to sweep but no luck.

Huber has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hardy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Huber tries to land a knee to the head but Hardy blocks with his arms.
Huber is looking to break free of the clinch but Hardy has double underhooks.
Huber swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Hardy is breathing heavily.

Hardy is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Huber can't fight it off and eventually Hardy manages to take the fight to the floor. Huber looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Huber is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Huber has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Hardy should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Huber has tightened it up now! Hardy should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
