PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Long Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Dong's choice of entrance music: I'm Going In. Long Dong has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Kyle Reese!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Long Dong!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dong ducks under a wild hook from Reese.
Reese misses with a body shot.
Dong misses with a two punch combination.
Dong throws the left hand but Reese avoids the punch easily.
Reese shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dong as he avoids it easily.
Dong tests Reese's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Reese looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reese lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Dong trying to control but Reese postures up.
Reese lands strikes from half guard.
Reese lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Reese takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Dong trying to hold on to Reese's head to control him but Reese postures up.
Reese misses with a head shot. Dong uses the momentum to regain guard.
Reese throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dong works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Reese working some strikes from top position.
Reese trying to control but Dong is working from the bottom.
Reese lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dong is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Reese won't allow Dong to sweep him here.
Reese throwing strikes but missing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reese accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Reese trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Dong throws a series of punches but Reese moves out of range.
Reese lands a jab-cross combination.
A jab from Reese misses.
Reese throws a body punch but Dong moves out of range.
Dong swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Reese closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Reese lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Dong is looking to stand up but Reese isn't so interested in that idea.
Reese has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reese landing some decent shots from guard.

Reese is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dong is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dong has escaped and now he's on top!

Dong drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Reese manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dong has Reese in his guard.

Reese lands a couple of digs.
Reese trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Reese won't allow Dong to sweep him here.
Reese postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Reese stands up over Dong, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Dong manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Reese manages to get himself to full guard.
Reese wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Reese dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Dong throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dong rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Reese moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kyle Reese seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reese shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dong as he jumps to the side.
Reese walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Dong lands a body shot.
Reese swings away with a body shot that misses
and Dong counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Dong throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dong scores with a jab. Reese acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
A nice combination there by Dong.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Reese scores with a hook to the body. Dong takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Reese shoots for a double leg takedown but Dong sprawls well. He's pushed Reese's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Reese takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Reese shoots in for a takedown but Dong shows good takedown defense.

Reese throws a predictable looking body shot
and Dong counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Dong throws a series of punches but Reese avoids them all with ease.
Good standup being displayed there by Dong as he connects with a hook.

Dong wants to control the pace but Reese is squirming around nicely.
Dong punching from mount but Reese doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Reese stops Dong from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Reese wants to hold on but Dong pushes him away.
Dong prevents Reese from getting the reversal.
Reese is trying to reverse the position but instead Dong has taken his back - oops!
Reese staying busy and making it hard for Dong to control.
Reese takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Reese trying to control but not successfully.
Well, with Dong on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Reese is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Dong working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Reese controlling his opponent's hands, preventing the submission attempt.
Reese avoids the strikes from Dong.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Long Dong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Dong lands with a shot to the body.
Reese works Dong's body with a nice hook.
Reese swinging wildly here.
Reese misses with the combination.
Reese falls off balance throwing a combination
and Dong counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
A telegraphed right hand from Dong misses the target.
Dong uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Reese has time to react.
Reese is looking to wear down Dong with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Dong scores with a body shot.
Dong lands a nice shot that snaps Reese's head back.
Dong cracks Reese with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Dong rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Reese moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Reese walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dong swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dong throws a combination. Reese tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Dong lands a jab to Reese's midsection.
Reese throws the left hand but Dong avoids the punch easily.

Reese is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dong's half guard.
Reese thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dong's head.
Dong moves into full guard.
Reese tries to free his leg and advance position but Dong is retaining full guard.
Dong keeping moving, preventing Reese from controlling successfully.
Dong is controlling Reese's posture.
Dong wants to stand up but Reese is controlling him.

Reese loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dong looking for a sweep. Not yet Dong, not yet.
Reese missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Reese working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Dong's head.
Reese wants to pass the guard but Dong is keeping the position.

Dong is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Reese defends well.

Reese in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Dong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Reese lands a couple of elbows.
Reese wants to pass the guard but Dong is keeping the position.
Reese connects with a couple of short punches.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Reese's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Reese postures up in Dong's guard and throws a big left but Dong blocks it.
Dong can't keep his opponent in guard - Reese advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Dong is trying to maintain the position but Reese is very close to passing his half guard.
Reese throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dong is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Reese pulls his head out easily.
Kyle Reese overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Reese is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Reese connects with a nice short shot to Dong's temple.
Reese moves nicely into side control.
Dong taking punishment in the form of punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dong dodges the ground and pound from Reese.
Dong managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Reese.

And that's the end of the fight!
Long Dong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dong has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
