PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Eggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Eggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Columbo Gatti and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson swats away the attempt to clinch by Eggs.
Eggs fails with a takedown attempt.

Eggs clinches with his opponent.
Jackson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Eggs.
Eggs fails to pull guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Eggs is pushing Jackson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Jackson prevents a takedown attempt there.

Jackson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Eggs blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Jackson crunches a lovely knee into Eggs's ribcage.
Eggs has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jackson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Eggs has Jackson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jackson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Eggs wants a takedown but no success here.
Eggs is trying to drag Jackson to the mat but Jackson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Eggs breaks from the clinch.

Eggs throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jackson was covering up waiting for the punch and Eggs finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jackson wants to get back to his feet but Eggs is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Eggs decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jackson, up you get!

Eggs fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jackson avoids it really well and circles away.
Jackson stuffs the takedown attempt from Eggs. Eggs gets slowly back to his feet.
Eggs shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jackson as he jumps to the side.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Eggs instigates a clinch.
Eggs is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Eggs manages to break the clinch.
Eggs tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jackson was well out of range. Poor timing from Eggs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Eggs misses the shot to the body.
Ryan Eggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eggs tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Eggs somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Eggs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Eggs looks for a takedown but Jackson sprawls well.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Eggs is defended easily by Jackson.
Eggs shoots for a takedown but Jackson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Jackson tries to buck Eggs off but Eggs is having none of it.
Jackson pushes Eggs away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Eggs gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
A lull in the action here as Eggs stalls from top position.
Jackson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Eggs is controlling him well.
Jackson tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Jackson is breathing heavily.

Jackson is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Eggs off. It looks like it's working - Eggs slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Jackson displaying calm under pressure there.

Eggs drives through and clinches with Jackson against the cage.
Eggs looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Eggs tries for a takedown. No joy.
Eggs tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Eggs is stalling here.
Eggs tries to score a body lock takedown but Jackson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Eggs gets control of Jackson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Eggs will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Eggs lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jackson!

Eggs looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Eggs scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Jackson is desperately trying to improve his position but Eggs has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Eggs's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Eggs dives in and grabs Jackson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jackson pushes down on Eggs's head and hops out.

and Eggs counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Eggs is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jackson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Eggs breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Eggs shoots for a double leg takedown but Jackson sprawls well. He's pushed Eggs's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Jackson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Eggs fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Eggs tries to pull guard but Jackson won't allow it.

Eggs jumps guard but Jackson stands there with Eggs around his waist. Eggs gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Eggs manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jackson manages to get himself to full guard.
Jackson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Eggs is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Jackson wants to stand up but Eggs is controlling him.
Eggs wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving.

Eggs is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Eggs drops back looking for a leg! Jackson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jackson manages to kick Eggs off! Eggs jumps back into Jackson's guard.
Eggs trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jackson wants to stand and escape but Eggs is having none of it.

Ryan Eggs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Jackson counters with a shoot takedown. Eggs fights it but they end up in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Jackson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Eggs has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
