PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Phillips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz has chosen Pantera - A New Level as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Phillips!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fernando Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Phillips shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Phillips showed some decent athleticism there.
Phillips thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Phillips thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Diaz's head.

Diaz gets back to full guard.
Phillips postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Diaz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Phillips throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Diaz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Phillips moves away.

Diaz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
