PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Elvis O Shea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and john rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). rock comes into a darkened arena with his song building. my god kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! john rock is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elvis O Shea!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, john rock!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Shea stuffs the takedown.
O Shea dives in and grabs rock's left leg, looking for a takedown. rock pushes down on O Shea's head and hops out.
O Shea shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says rock as he avoids it easily.
O Shea changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. rock tries to avoid it but O Shea manages to keep hold of a leg and drag rock to the ground. rock escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Elvis O Shea. That's going to take a lot out of him.
O Shea shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with rock but rock pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and O Shea counters with a single leg into guard. rock didn't expect that.
rock not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
rock is controlling O Shea's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
O Shea's corner is telling him to maintain position.
O Shea has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of rock is proving hard to escape from.

O Shea drops back looking for a leg! rock is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and rock manages to kick O Shea off! O Shea jumps back into rock's guard.
rock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
rock is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
rock has his takedown stuffed

so O Shea counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
O Shea slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
rock striking off his back, scoring a few points.
rock trying to keep a closed guard but O Shea is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and O Shea counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
O Shea takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
rock wants to control but O Shea is keeping busy.

O Shea has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

O Shea is going oldschool here, as he tries to force rock to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so rock shrugs it off.

O Shea swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and rock is now in O Shea's guard. A big mistake from O Shea there, giving up the dominant position!

O Shea controls rock momentarily but rock frees himself.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
rock looking to sit in guard and control but O Shea gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
O Shea throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as rock works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

O Shea is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

O Shea stands up and waves to rock to follow him.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

O Shea is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, rock has escaped the position, nice work there.

and O Shea counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
O Shea controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

O Shea drops back, looking for a kneebar! rock looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. rock looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from rock!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
O Shea is trying to escape the position but rock is controlling the position.

rock passes to full mount! That's big trouble for O Shea!
O Shea keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
rock lands a nice shot to the head.
O Shea tries to hold on but rock pushes him away.
O Shea slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
O Shea works his way to full guard. Good work.
rock trying to control but O Shea is working from the bottom.

rock wants to get up but he can't break O Shea's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as rock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
O Shea is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

O Shea is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Elvis O Shea overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

O Shea isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. rock stacks O Shea on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by rock!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

O Shea has hold of rock's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and rock manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for O Shea, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
