PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Bone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jacob Bone will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcus Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jacob Bone!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bone lands with a straight right. Silva didn't see that one coming.
Bone looks to score with a jab to the body but Silva is just out of range.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bone paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Silva walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Silva fails in his attempt to clinch.
Silva doesn't manage to clinch there - Bone circles away.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bone swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Bone darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva gets full guard.

Silva looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Silva avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Bone is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Silva is adopting a defensive guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bone accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Silva looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Silva keeping moving, preventing Bone from controlling successfully.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bone on the ground.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Silva doesn't manage to clinch there - Bone circles away.
A slow jab from Bone misses its intended target.
Bone avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bone avoids it really well and circles away.

Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bone's guard.
Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Bone tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Bone is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Silva defends well.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Bone is keeping the position.

Bone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bone isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Silva stacks Bone on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Silva!

Bone is not content to let Silva control the position.
Bone taking punishment in the form of punches.

Bone tries to buck Silva off but Silva is having none of it.

Silva creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Silva is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Bone will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Silva works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Silva cracks Bone with a big elbow.
Silva controls the position.
Silva seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bone for as long as he can get away with.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Silva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bone is looking for a sweep.
Silva lands a nice forearm strike.
You can see the frustration on Bone's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Silva has one of Bone's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Silva is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bone throws a hook to the side of Silva's head but Silva sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bone lands with a straight right. Silva didn't see that one coming.

Silva has managed to clinch.

Bone throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Silva takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Silva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bone avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bone looking to slow down the pace here.
Silva manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Silva is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bone pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Bone presses Silva against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Silva creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Silva is struggling to control the position.
Bone is pressed up against the cage. Silva has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bone down to the mat. Bone avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Bone bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
