PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between MIKE HAWK (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Padrone Shinobi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

HAWK fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shinobi sprawls well initially but HAWK persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shinobi looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Shinobi tries to roll over but HAWK keeps him under control.

Shinobi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. HAWK gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
HAWK slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

HAWK might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Shinobi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and HAWK defends well.
HAWK knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shinobi on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
HAWK tries to stand but Shinobi is controlling from the bottom.
HAWK wants to control from the top but Shinobi keeps moving.

The referee stands the fighters back up. MIKE HAWK just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
HAWK tries for a takedown but Shinobi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Shinobi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
HAWK looks like he's trying to stand up.

Shinobi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
HAWK tries to roll over but Shinobi keeps him under control.

Padrone Shinobi dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The fight stays on the outside here - HAWK looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Shinobi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around HAWK's waist but HAWK gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shinobi off to one side.
MIKE HAWK is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
HAWK lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Shinobi circles away quickly and effectively.
Shinobi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
HAWK throws a right and a left that Shinobi avoids nicely.
HAWK clobbers Shinobi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

HAWK swings for the body but Shinobi moves out of range.
Shinobi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has HAWK pinned against the cage. HAWK gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
HAWK lands a jab-cross combination.

HAWK fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shinobi, pushing him back against the cage.

HAWK breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Shinobi moves out of range as HAWK strikes.

HAWK scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
HAWK is looking to work some ground and pound but Shinobi has wrist control.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells HAWK's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

HAWK has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Shinobi to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! HAWK is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Shinobi pulls down on the head and he's put HAWK to sleep! This one is all over!
