PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Beast Mode (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Willard Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Beast Mode!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Willard Evans!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Mode with that takedown attempt.
Mode shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mode is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Evans's half guard.
Mode slips a nice elbow through Evans's hands, connecting with Evans's forehead.
Mode thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Evans to regain full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mode postures up in Evans's guard and throws a big left but Evans blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Evans is trying to keep Mode in close.
Mode trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mode accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mode throws a big right hand that misses.
Mode with a flurry of punches that miss.
Mode chips away with some ground and pound.
Mode throwing strikes from guard but Evans blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Evans closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mode keeps working.
Mode wants to improve his position but Evans is controlling well.
Evans wants to take a breather but Mode is having none of it.
Evans might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mode kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Evans is just content to waste time from the top position. Mode takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Evans displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mode.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Beast Mode. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mode gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Evans to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Evans wants to pass the guard but Mode is keeping the position.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mode misses with a takedown

and Evans counters by moving into the clinch.
Mode's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Evans has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mode avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Evans prevents a takedown attempt there.

Mode is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Evans pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Evans drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mode pulls his leg out and moves away.

Mode shoots in and bounces Evans off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mode accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Evans escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mode gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mode feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mode shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Evans counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Evans.

Mode wants to hit a switch here but Evans passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mode there!

That was a close second round but I would say that Beast Mode will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Evans tries to clinch but Mode moves out of range.
Mode gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Evans counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mode's guard now.
Evans wants to control from the top but Mode keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mode pulls Evans in close to his closed guard and prevents Evans from doing any damage or advancing position.

Mode's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
