The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mallett decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mallett is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Dos Anos is trying to maintain the position but Mallett is very close to passing his half guard.
Mallett is working for a kimura but Dos Anos is defending it quite comfortably.
Mallett is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mallett tries to pass to full mount but Dos Anos defends it.

Mallett is keen to just control but Dos Anos is a slippery customer.
Mallett winds up and cracks Dos Anos with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

and Mallett counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mallett.

Dos Anos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mallett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mallett drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dos Anos manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mallett has Dos Anos in his guard.
Dos Anos trying to control the position from guard on top but Mallett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dos Anos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Dos Anos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Dos Anos drops back looking for a leg! Mallett is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mallett manages to kick Dos Anos off! Dos Anos jumps back into Mallett's guard.
Dos Anos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Dos Anos wants to control from the top but Mallett keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mallett wants to sweep but no luck.
