Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kix Rus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kix Rus!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith is looking to clinch.
Rus lands a high kick!
Smith fails with the takedown.
Smith blocks a head kick by Rus.
Rus throws a head kick that Smith semi-blocks.
Rus tries to clinch up.
Smith tries for a takedown but Rus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rus napping and manages to drive through into side control!
An elbow from Smith crashes against the mat.
Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rus avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Smith.
Smith throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Smith tries for a kimura but Rus is defending well.
Smith working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Smith takes a little break here. Rus wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Smith tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Smith fails to land a wild elbow strike.
You can see the frustration on Rus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Smith lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rus down.
Rus struggling a bit here.
Sloppy strikes there by Smith.
Rus is trying to get back to half guard.
Rus is not content to let Smith control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Smith shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rus is trying to defend but Smith finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Smith wants to free his trapped foot but Rus is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Rus has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
Smith thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Smith not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith prevents Rus from improving his position.
Rus trying to control from the bottom.
Rus on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Rus manages to get to full guard.
Rus has momentary wrist control but Smith slips an elbow through the middle.
Rus preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Rus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Smith dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rus tries to avoid it but Smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rus to the ground. Rus escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Rus.
Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rus keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Rus pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rus avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smith looks for the body kick but Rus saw that one coming.
Kix Rus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith wants to clinch.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Rus, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Rus against the ropes but Rus circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rus blocks the body kick.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Rus saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jose Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rus throws a nice head kick!
Rus throws a sloppy head kick and Smith moves out of range easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rus pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rus checks a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kix Rus really dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rus tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rus scores with a head kick.
Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Rus sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Some wild striking there from Smith.
Smith looks to clinch
and Rus counters with a head kick.

Smith throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rus was covering up waiting for the punch and Smith finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Rus looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith chips away with some ground and pound.
Smith missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Smith throws a strike but Rus rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Rus thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Rus wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.

Rus drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rus jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rus drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!
Rus is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Smith looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Rus is avoiding damage well.
Smith looking to control but instead Rus has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Rus avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smith.

Smith looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that Jose Smith will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Rus tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rus walks into a stiff left hand from Smith.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Smith swinging wildly here.

Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rus is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Rus circles away and we're back to standing.
Rus misses with a head kick.
Smith will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Rus stuffs the takedown attempt from Smith. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rus is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rus is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rus manages to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jose Smith showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Smith has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
