PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Sigic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Carlos Mendoza was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Sigic. Mendoza does a little dance to reset his feet.

Sigic bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Mendoza's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sigic lands an elbow.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sloppy strikes there by Sigic.
Mendoza parries the strikes from Sigic easily there. Sigic is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mendoza to escape.
An elbow from Sigic crashes against the mat.
Mendoza is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mendoza sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Sigic working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Mendoza tries to get to full guard but Sigic has control of the leg.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Sigic seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mendoza does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sigic has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sigic scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Carlos Mendoza has been cut.
Mendoza swings and misses with a shot to the body

so Sigic counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sigic looking to pass the guard.
Sigic stopping the sweep attempt from Mendoza.
Mendoza is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Mendoza lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sigic!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

BOOM! Mendoza connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Sigic regains half guard.
Mendoza is pressing down on Sigic's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sigic is holding on for now.
Sigic wants to get back to full guard.
Mendoza passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sigic!
Mendoza prevents Sigic from getting the reversal.

Mendoza lands a big shot there that rocks Sigic but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Sigic is desperately trying to improve his position but Mendoza has a good base and remains in mount.
Mendoza working the ground and pound effectively.
Sigic is working to get back to half guard.
Mendoza is landing with some decent strikes but Sigic is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Mendoza is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Sigic can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Mendoza fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!


Sigic is rocked!
Sigic is working to get back to half guard.
Oh Sigic is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sigic takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Mendoza's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carlos Mendoza!
