PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jon Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, The Man!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Man misses.

Harris shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Harris showed some decent athleticism there.
Man wants to improve his position but Harris is controlling well.

Harris is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Harris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Man keeps working.
Man is looking for a sweep. Harris is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Man gets back to full guard.

Harris got a little sloppy there for a moment and Man has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Harris has managed to get both his arms back between Man's legs - danger averted.

Harris looking to pass the guard.
Man tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Harris slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Harris working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Man is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Harris tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Man is looking for a sweep.
Man manages to get back to half guard.
Harris prevents Man from improving his position.
Harris is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Harris is trying to control. Man wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Man is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Man is pressing down on Harris's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Harris wants to free his trapped foot but Man is holding on for dear life with his legs.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Harris is pushing down on Man's leg trying to pass to half guard. Man is fighting to maintain full guard but Harris has managed to sneak the leg through.
Harris thows a huge punch but Man dodges it nicely.
Man moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Man is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harris makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Harris dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Harris feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Harris is looking to advance position but Man won't allow it.

Man is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Harris pulls his head out easily.
Man is breathing heavily.
Man trying to get back to full guard but Harris takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Man is squirming around, avoiding Harris's attempts to control the action.
Man is trying desperately to improve position.
Harris raining down shots from the mount!
Man is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Harris putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Man is looking to improve his position but Harris isn't that keen on the idea.
Harris is landing with some decent strikes but Man is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Harris jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Man manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Man regains half guard.
Man tries to roll over but Harris keeps him under control.
Harris wants to take a breather but Man is having none of it.
Jon Harris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Man is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Harris's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Harris's back!

Man is looking for the choke from the back position but Harris is controlling his hands well.

Harris manages to reverse the position and now he's in Man's guard. Nice work there by Harris.

Harris cracks Man with a solid left hand.
Man can't keep his opponent in guard - Harris advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Man actively working from the bottom here.
Harris uses his free foot to push down on Man's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Man.
Man is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Harris dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Man rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Harris moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Man misses with a jab, cross combination.
Man stuffs the takedown.
Harris misses with a hook.
Harris misses with a hook.
A looping hook to the body misses from Man. Harris does a little dance to reset his feet.
Man misses with a two punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big left from Harris misses.
A punch combination from Man misses.
Man takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Harris throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Man was covering up waiting for the punch and Harris finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Man bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Harris's guard.

Harris is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Man drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Harris dives on top into guard.
Harris scoring with punches to the head and body.
Harris wants to control from the top but Man keeps moving.
Harris connects with a couple of short punches.
Man looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Harris puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Man is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Man actively working from the bottom here.
Harris working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The Man has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Harris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Man is in all sorts of trouble here.

Harris is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Man is surviving well by controlling Harris's body position as best he can.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Harris, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
