PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Cesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Zabuza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ricky Zabuza was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Cesar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricky Zabuza!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Cesar misses.
Cesar showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Zabuza.
Zabuza circles away from the clinch attempt.
Zabuza misses the jab.
Zabuza blocks the body kick.
Danga de danga de dang - Zabuza scores with a four punch combination!
Cesar throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Zabuza to counter with a crisp jab.
Zabuza scores with a nice right hand.
Cesar is looking to clinch.
Cesar tries for a takedown but Zabuza circles away easily
and Zabuza counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Zabuza swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Zabuza throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Cesar counter with a right hand.

Cesar shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cesar showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cesar seems to be working for a kimura but Zabuza defends the submission attempt.

Cesar is trying to control the action in half guard but Zabuza is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Zabuza is trying to stand up here but Cesar is controlling him well.
Zabuza is trying is best to control the position here.
Cesar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Zabuza does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cesar seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Zabuza moves into full guard.
Cesar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Zabuza is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Cesar content to stall in guard here.

Cesar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cesar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Zabuza pushes Cesar off and scrambles back to his feet.

Zabuza throws a right and a left that Cesar avoids nicely.

Zabuza misses with the combination.

Cesar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cesar looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Zabuza is avoiding damage well.
The strikes coming from Cesar are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Cesar remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Cesar wants to take a breather but Zabuza manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Cesar.
Zabuza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cesar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cesar has gone for a leg lock! Zabuza slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cesar's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cesar is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zabuza is aware though and is defending well.

Zabuza stands up from Cesar's guard - Zabuza perhaps looking for a knockout.
Zabuza lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricky Zabuza dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


No luck for Cesar with that takedown attempt.
Cesar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zabuza sprawls well. Zabuza wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cesar gets slowly back to his feet.

Cesar throws a chopping leg kick but Zabuza manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Cesar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Zabuza swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cesar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zabuza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Zabuza is looking to stand up but Cesar isn't so interested in that idea.
Zabuza wants to sweep but no luck.

Zabuza is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cesar is controlling him.
Cesar throws a strike but Zabuza rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cesar is on top in guard.
Cesar stops Zabuza from standing up.
Cesar wants to pass the guard but Zabuza is keeping the position.

Zabuza uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Zabuza misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cesar throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Zabuza might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Zabuza avoids the body shot from Cesar.
Cesar attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Cesar looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zabuza can do anything to dispel that myth.

Zabuza's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Cesar sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Zabuza has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Zabuza covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Cesar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cesar is looking to control Zabuza but Zabuza is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Marcelo Cesar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cesar is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Zabuza up.
Marcelo Cesar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cesar looking to hold on to the position here but Zabuza rolls and ends up regaining guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ricky Zabuza comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Zabuza winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
