PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Vinicius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Torres has chosen Eu Quero Ver o Oco as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Vinicius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Torres!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torres throws a lazy right hand but Vinicius sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Luiz Vinicius seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vinicius gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Vinicius tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Torres tries to score a body lock takedown but Vinicius shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Vinicius misses with a knee strike.
Vinicius wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Torres jumps into guard, dragging Vinicius to the mat.

Vinicius stands up and waves to Torres to follow him.
Vinicius tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Torres bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Torres tries to advance to mount but Vinicius denies him.
Vinicius is not content to let Torres control the position.
Vinicius sneaks back into half guard.

Vinicius wants to get back to full guard.
Torres missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Torres wants to take a breather but Vinicius is having none of it.
Vinicius wants to improve his position but Torres is controlling well.
Vinicius wants to control but Torres is keeping busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vinicius misses with a takedown

and Torres counters with a nice double leg into side control. Vinicius won't be happy with that.

Torres is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vinicius has escaped the position, nice work there.
Vinicius stops Torres from passing to mount.

Torres has control of an arm but Vinicius manages to advance to Torres's back!
Torres grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Torres tries to escape the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vinicius punishes Torres with strikes from the back mount.
Torres turns into Vinicius and is now in his guard.
Vinicius wants to sweep here but Torres controlling him for the moment.
Torres wants to control from the top but Vinicius keeps moving.
Vinicius seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Vinicius has a closed guard, preventing Torres from standing up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Torres looking to sit in guard and control but Vinicius gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Vinicius stands up over Torres, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Vinicius scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Torres trying to keep a closed guard but Vinicius is proving a slippery customer.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Torres gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vinicius to score an easy takedown into full guard.

and Vinicius decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Torres's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vinicius gets to his feet. Torres looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Torres wants to clinch
and Vinicius counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Torres keeps the fight on the outside.
Torres displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vinicius.

Torres throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vinicius works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Vinicius tries to roll over but Torres keeps him under control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Torres shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Torres was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Torres landing strikes from the mount and Vinicius is in trouble!

Vinicius tries to hold on but Torres pushes him away.
Vinicius is wriggling around trying to escape.
Torres trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Vinicius can't escape the position.
Torres with shots to the head and body - Vinicius looks very uncomfortable down there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Vinicius takes one to the side of the head.
Vinicius doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Torres counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Torres passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Torres thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Vinicius is not content to let Torres control the position.
Vinicius tries to improve position but can't.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Vinicius is trying to control Torres's posture but Torres avoids it.

Torres decides to stand up, so the ref orders Vinicius to his feet.
Vinicius tries for a takedown but Torres circles away easily

and Torres counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Torres.

Torres's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Vinicius shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Vinicius was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Torres wants to control but Vinicius is having none of it.
Vinicius takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fernando Torres has got the better of the ground game so far.

Vinicius throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Torres wants to hold on but Vinicius pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vinicius lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Torres slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Torres makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Torres.
Vinicius throws a strike but Torres rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Torres's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Vinicius tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Vinicius keeping moving, preventing Torres from controlling successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Vinicius is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Torres drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Vinicius gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Vinicius tries to break free but Torres pushes him back against the cage.
Torres tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Vinicius is trying to force a seperation but Torres has the dominant position.

Luiz Vinicius has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fernando Torres.

Torres turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Torres manages to end up in side control.

Fernando Torres comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Torres has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
