PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Jafar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert McCay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCay comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Burning Heart kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Robert McCay is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jorge Jafar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert McCay!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jafar scores a takedown into full mount!
McCay in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.


It looks like Robert McCay has been cut.
Jafar tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
McCay can't escape the position.

Jafar swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and McCay is now in Jafar's guard. A big mistake from Jafar there, giving up the dominant position!
McCay is pushing down on Jafar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jafar is fighting to maintain full guard but McCay has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jafar is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jafar misses with some strikes from the bottom.
McCay is pressing down on Jafar's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jafar is holding on for now.

McCay is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jafar is just riding it out for now. McCay eventually gives up the hold.
Jafar is looking for a sweep. McCay is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCay tries to stand and escape but Jafar is controlling the position.
Jafar is trying to stand up here but McCay is controlling him well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jafar takes a kick to the side of the head.
McCay gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Jafar.


That has opened up Robert McCay's cut even more.

Jafar closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jafar lands in his opponent's guard.
Jafar scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Jafar stands up from McCay's guard - Jafar perhaps looking for a knockout.
McCay looks gassed!
McCay throws a right hand that Jafar ducks under and follows up with a left that Jafar also avoids with ease.
McCay moves out of range as Jafar throws a body kick.
Jafar tries to close the distance and clinch up but McCay swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McCay drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jafar tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jafar wants to stand but McCay is controlling the position.

Jafar has his feet on McCay's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Jafar fails with the takedown.
McCay shoots in looking for a takedown. Jafar tries to sprawl out of it but McCay keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jafar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McCay throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A solid body kick from Jafar.

Jafar scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
McCay wants to control the action here but instead Jafar manages to pass to full mount!
Jafar can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McCay is looking to escape.
Jafar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jafar tries to control but McCay wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

McCay gets caught flat footed, as Jafar shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jafar trying to control the position from guard on top but McCay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jafar is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McCay is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McCay has escaped and now he's on top!

Jafar is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because McCay is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jafar could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Jafar is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McCay lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
McCay works a leg free and moves into half guard.
McCay takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Jafar tries to regain full guard. Instead though, McCay has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McCay controlling from the full mount.
Jafar is wriggling around trying to escape.
McCay breaks from Jafar's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Jafar wants to hold on but McCay pushes him away.
McCay landing strikes from the mount.
Jafar really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

McCay avoids the attempt from Jafar to control.
Jafar manages to control the position for a moment.
McCay lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Jafar is in all sorts of trouble here.
McCay breaks from Jafar's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Jafar wants to hold on but McCay pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jorge Jafar just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
McCay tries for a takedown but Jafar circles away easily
and Jafar counters with a series of strikes. McCay will be more careful next time no doubt.
McCay fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jafar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

McCay pushes Jafar up against the cage in a clinch.
Jafar trying to stall but McCay improves his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jafar misses with a hook to the ribs.
Jafar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. McCay fights it off and pushes away nicely.
McCay tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert McCay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jafar.
Jafar is chipping away with strikes.

Jafar stands up and we're back to a striking position.
A solid leg kick lands there for Jafar.
McCay doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Jafar counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Danga de danga de dang - McCay scores with a four punch combination!

and McCay counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McCay.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jafar is looking for a takedown up against the cage. McCay gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

McCay is trying to break the clinch but Jafar has him pressed against the cage.

and Jafar counters with a single leg into guard. McCay didn't expect that.

Jorge Jafar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McCay wants to get back to his feet but Jafar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Jafar decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

McCay feints and as Jafar raises his hands in defense, McCay changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
McCay postures up in Jafar's guard and throws a big left but Jafar blocks it.
Jafar is pulling down on McCay's head to control his posture.
Jafar is trying to control the position but McCay postures up.

Jafar is working an open guard so McCay takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jafar wants to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCay displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Jafar moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Jafar shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McCay defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jorge Jafar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McCay tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Jafar counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McCay's guard now.

McCay looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jafar has picked McCay up and slammed him! McCay can't keep hold of the triangle and Jafar manages to pass to side control!
Jafar is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McCay will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
McCay is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

McCay is looking for a sweep.
McCay is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jafar off and has taken his back!
McCay doesn't have the hooks in and Jafar manages to turn into his guard.
McCay is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jafar is controlling him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
