PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Belyakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Nevada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Nevada is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Belyakov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Nevada!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Belyakov has taken the fight to the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Nevada just misses with a elbow thrown towards Belyakov's brow.
Nevada is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Belyakov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Nevada stalling in the clinch but Belyakov improves position.

Nevada jumps guard and drags Belyakov to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Belyakov passes Nevada's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Belyakov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Still in half guard, Belyakov seems content to control.

Belyakov seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nevada for as long as he can get away with.
Nevada pushes Belyakov off looking to stand but Belyakov dives back in and keeps control.
Belyakov is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Nevada!

Nevada tries to buck Belyakov off but he can't manage it.

Belyakov throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Nevada!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belyakov is striking well from the back but Nevada escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.

Belyakov stands and throws Nevada's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Belyakov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nevada, who protects the arm well.

Belyakov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Belyakov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Belyakov works to advance to full mount. Nevada defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Belyakov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Nevada can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nevada wants to clinch up but Belyakov keeps it at a distance.

Belyakov closes the distance and clinches.
Nevada creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Belyakov tries to land knees in the clinch but Nevada avoids the damage to the body.

Belyakov lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Belyakov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Belyakov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Belyakov in particular looking to stall.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nevada looks like he's trying to stand up.
Belyakov content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Belyakov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Belyakov tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nevada knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

You get the feeling that Nevada really doesn't like being in this position too much.
