PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pueblo Leaf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pueblo Leaf told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pueblo Leaf!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Radbod Blank and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leaf throws a nice looking combination but Carter bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Leaf throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Carter on the side of the head.

Carter could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Carter ducks under a wild hook from Leaf.
Leaf lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Leaf fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carter drops his hands momentarily and Leaf takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Leaf tries a head kick but it misses.
Leaf lands with a hook. Carter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Carter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Leaf throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Leaf misses with the combination.
Leaf jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Carter tries to clinch up but Leaf circles away and keeps his distance.
Carter checks the leg kick.
Leaf throws a right and a left that Carter avoids nicely.

Carter clinches with his opponent.
Leaf is trying to break the clinch but Carter has him pressed against the cage.
Carter jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Leaf walks away with a smile on his face. Carter gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Leaf throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Carter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Leaf is fending him off so far but Carter persists. Nope, Leaf circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Carter ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carter no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Carter is breathing heavily.

Leaf really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Carter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Leaf is just riding it out for now. Carter eventually gives up the hold.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Leaf can do anything to dispel that myth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Leaf tries to get to full guard but Carter has control of the leg.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carter is thwarting Leaf's attempts to control the position.
Leaf tries to roll over but Carter keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pueblo Leaf dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Carter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Leaf circles away.
Leaf paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Leaf misses with a few strikes there.
James Carter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Carter.
Leaf throws a right hand that Carter ducks under and follows up with a left that Carter also avoids with ease.
Leaf connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Carter is trying hard to land a takedown here. Leaf sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No joy there for Leaf, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Leaf takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Leaf will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Leaf lands a left and a right that send Carter crashing to the mat, dazed. Leaf thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Carter takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Leaf just misses with a punch to the body.
Leaf throws a sloppy head kick and Carter moves out of range easily.
Leaf thows a body shot but no joy.
Leaf misses the shot to the body.
Leaf stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Carter takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Carter takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Leaf misses with a kick to the body.
Leaf ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carter moves away.
No joy there for Leaf, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Leaf throws a shot from downtown. Carter moves away and avoids it.
Carter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Leaf lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Carter backs up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Leaf lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carter circles away quickly and effectively.
Leaf throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Carter.
Leaf misses with a wild combination.
Leaf stalks Carter and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Carter's face. Carter staggers backwards, shaken.
Carter throws a head kick but Leaf moves out of range.
Leaf tries to bum rush Carter with a series of wild strikes but Carter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Leaf lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

and Carter counters by clinching up.
Leaf tries to circle away but Carter has him pinned against the cage.
Leaf stops a takedown attempt from Carter.
Carter tries to pull guard but Leaf won't allow it.

A frustrated look appears on Leaf's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Leaf misses with a body punch.
Leaf jumps guard but Carter stands there with Leaf around his waist. Leaf gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Leaf is trying to break free.

Carter decides to pull guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Leaf slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Leaf throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pueblo Leaf showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Leaf looks to land a combination but Carter avoids it well.

and Carter counters with a single leg into guard. Leaf didn't expect that.
Leaf has Carter pulled in close to control his posture.

Leaf seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Carter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carter is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Leaf.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Leaf lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Carter has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Carter and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Leaf throws an overhand right that lands on Carter's shoulder, as Carter tries to avoid the shot.
Leaf swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Carter counters with a nice double leg into side control. Leaf won't be happy with that.

Carter tries for a kimura but Leaf is defending well.
Leaf is looking to reverse the position.

Carter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Leaf keeps working.

Carter is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Leaf is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Carter tries to score with some ground and pound. Leaf controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Carter creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Leaf sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Leaf tries to buck Carter off but Carter is having none of it.
Leaf wants to control but Carter postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Carter shoots in for a double leg but Leaf sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pueblo Leaf seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Leaf rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Carter moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Carter.
Leaf throws a series of punches but Carter moves out of range.
Leaf missing with a left hand there. Carter was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Carter clinches up against the cage.
Carter is trying to drag Leaf to the mat but Leaf just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Leaf drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Leaf tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Carter just stands there and leans against the cage.
James Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Carter tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Leaf's elbow.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Carter showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Leaf has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
