PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Kirby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Regis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Kirby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Regis!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirby misses the shot to the body.
Kirby scores with a sloppy right hand. Regis should have avoided that one.


It looks like Mike Regis has been cut.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kirby. Regis does a little dance to reset his feet.
Regis throws a series of strikes that have Kirby backpedaling.


It looks like Joe Kirby has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A lazy left from Regis finds it's target.

Regis catches Kirby napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Kirby to the canvas!


Kirby is rocked!


Joe Kirby's cut is getting worse.
Regis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kirby has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Regis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kirby has a closed guard, preventing Regis from standing up.

Kirby is looking for a triangle but Regis pushes his legs off easily.
Regis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Kirby escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Regis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Regis showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Regis trying to control the position from guard on top but Kirby is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Regis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kirby working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Regis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Regis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kirby can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Regis controls the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kirby keeping moving, preventing Regis from controlling successfully.
Regis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Regis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Despite being in the dominant position, Mike Regis just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kirby misses with a combination
and Regis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Regis connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kirby momentarily.
Kirby slips a jab and a cross from Regis.
Kirby needs to keep his hands up - Regis had a free shot at his head there.


Joe Kirby's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Kirby wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kirby takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Kirby on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Kirby is breathing heavily.
Kirby takes one on the button.
Regis looks to land a combination but Kirby avoids it well.
Kirby tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Regis paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kirby looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Regis is fending him off so far but Kirby persists. Nope, Regis circles away and we're back to standing.
Kirby fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Good shot there by Regis.
Regis dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Regis, as that shot connected.
Regis misses with a combination
and Kirby counters with a left and a right that stings Regis.
Kirby takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Mike Regis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kirby is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Regis.


Jeez, Joe Kirby's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Kirby takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Regis throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kirby stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kirby takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Regis has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Kirby on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Regis jabs Kirby right on the nose. Kirby blinks but takes it well.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Joe Kirby's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Mike Regis!
