PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dick Tator (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Perlito Calzada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dick Tator!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Perlito Calzada!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tator throws a right and a left that both miss.
Calzada missing with a left hand there. Tator was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Calzada shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tator napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Calzada is trying to ground and pound but Tator uses the momentary lack of control by Calzada to regain half guard.
Tator desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Calzada wants to pass to mount but Tator is defending the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Calzada is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Calzada is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tator has his hands clasped together around Calzada's back. He's all about the action.
Calzada prevents Tator from improving his position.
Calzada missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Calzada is looking for a kimura but Tator is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Calzada to get the leverage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Calzada closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Calzada lands in his opponent's guard.
Calzada throws a strike but Tator rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Calzada is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Tator is staying active underneath Calzada, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Tator makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Tator lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Calzada circles away quickly and effectively.
Perlito Calzada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Calzada shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tator as he jumps to the side.
Calzada scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Horrible takedown by Calzada or perhaps it was just good defense by Tator which made him look bad.
Tator rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Calzada moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Calzada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tator's waist but Tator gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Calzada off to one side.
Dick Tator has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Perlito Calzada.
Calzada throws a combination that misses

and Tator counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Tator swings wildly with an uppercut but Calzada uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tator lands with a short punch from the clinch.
With the fighters up against the ropes, Tator throws an elbow but misses.

Tator breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Calzada closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Tator manages to get back to half guard.
Calzada is keen to just control but Tator is a slippery customer.
Tator might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tator wants to control but Calzada is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Calzada trying to mount his opponent but Tator defends it.
Calzada seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tator pushes Calzada off looking to stand but Calzada dives back in and keeps control.
Calzada is stalling here. Tator is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Calzada seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Tator has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Tator trying to control the action but Calzada is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Calzada has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Calzada throws a jab when Tator was well out of range.
A left and a right from Calzada both land. Nice combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Perlito Calzada dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Calzada doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Tator connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A head kick misses from Tator.
Tator swings for the body but Calzada moves out of range.
Tator lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Calzada, as that shot connected.

and Tator counters with a left and a right that stings Calzada.
Tator misses with a two punch combination.

Calzada closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Calzada seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Calzada is looking for a kimura but Tator is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Calzada to get the leverage.
Calzada is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Calzada is working for a submission of some sort.
Tator trying to control here.

Calzada is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Tator tries to kick Calzada off but Calzada keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tator moves into full guard.
Calzada trying to control but Tator is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Calzada with a poor takedown
and Tator makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Dick Tator has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Perlito Calzada.
Calzada tries for a takedown but Tator circles away easily
and Tator counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Calzada thinking.
Tator fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Calzada shoots and misses
and Tator counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Tator comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Calzada is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Tator.


Calzada is rocked!


It looks like Perlito Calzada has been cut.
Tator cracks Calzada with a brutal left hook that knocks him out cold! This one is over in a flash! Game over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dick Tator!
