PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pete Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andreas Dassler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pete Walker looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pete Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andreas Dassler!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dassler fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dassler shoots in and drives through. Walker sprawls well.
Dassler looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Walker is fending him off so far but Dassler persists. Nope, Walker circles away and we're back to standing.
Dassler connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Walker checks a low kick from Dassler.

Pete Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andreas Dassler.

Walker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dassler's guard.

Dassler had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Walker is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Dassler Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Walker's back instead.

Walker wants to control his opponent's hands but Dassler gets his hands free.
You can see the frustration on Walker's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Dassler is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Dassler is trying to stick to Walker's back but Walker is turning into Dassler. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Dassler's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Walker.

Walker wants to pass the guard but Dassler is keeping the position.

Dassler throws his legs up looking for a submission but Walker uses it to pass to side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dassler manages to get back to half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dassler is looking to control Walker's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dassler avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dassler regains full guard. Nicely done.

Dassler wants to stand up but Walker is controlling him.
Dassler is trying to keep Walker in close.
Walker wants to control from the top but Dassler keeps moving.
Walker with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Dassler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Walker will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Walker changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dassler looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dassler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Dassler manages to get back to half guard.
Walker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dassler keeps working.

Walker escapes and gets back to his feet.
Walker wants to clinch up but Dassler keeps it at a distance.
Dassler throws a head kick but Walker moves out of range.
Dassler shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Walker counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Walker is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dassler defends it well.

Walker misses with a head shot. Dassler uses the momentum to regain guard.
Dassler tries to strike from the bottom.
Walker trying to control but Dassler is working from the bottom.
Dassler not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dassler fails with the takedown

and Walker counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Walker is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dassler is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dassler has escaped and now he's on top!
Dassler wants to pass the guard but Walker is keeping the position.
Walker is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Walker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Walker working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Dassler has passed into half guard!
Walker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dassler is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Walker stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Dassler.
Dassler misses with a jab, cross combination.
Dassler wants to clinch but Walker slips to the side

and Walker counters with a takedown into side control.

Walker is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dassler has escaped the position, nice work there.
Dassler defending against the ground and pound.
Dassler wants to control but Walker postures up.
Dassler manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Walker looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dassler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dassler makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Walker shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Walker throws some wild stikes that Dassler manages to avoid easily.
Dassler wants to hold on but Walker pushes him away.
Dassler might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Walker kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Dassler manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Walker manages to get himself to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Dassler tries to clinch but Walker moves away

and Walker counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Walker.

Walker tightens his grip and picks Dassler up, before dumping him to the ground. Dassler manages to land in guard.

Walker has gone for a leg lock! Dassler slips out almost immediately though and dives into Walker's guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Walker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dassler wanted to stand there but Walker had control of the position.
Dassler passes into half guard.
Dassler lands with a punch from half guard.
Walker trying to control but Dassler postures up.
Walker is trying to get back to full guard.

Dassler is looking for a kimura here.
Walker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dassler connects with a nice short shot to Walker's temple.

Walker is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Dassler pulls his head out easily.

Dassler stands up out of the half guard.
Dassler misses with a hook

and Walker counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dassler!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Walker has hold of Dassler's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Dassler manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Pete Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dassler bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Dassler gets to his feet - Walker follows without any prompting.
Dassler throws a right and a left that Walker avoids nicely.
Walker dodges the punch combination from Dassler.

and Walker counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Walker is trying to control the action in half guard but Dassler is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Walker wants to pass to mount but Dassler is defending the position.
Dassler works his way to full guard. Good work.
Walker has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Walker pushes down on Dassler's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Walker stands up and beckons Dassler to join him on the feet.

Walker shoots in and bounces Dassler off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Walker won't allow Dassler to sweep him here.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Walker postures up and lands a big shot to Dassler's brow.

Pete Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
