These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richards is looking to land body kicks.
Richards tries a head kick but it misses.
Richards throws a head kick but Fairtex moves out of range.
Fairtex blocks a head kick by Richards.

Fairtex is pushing Richards up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

and Fairtex counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Fairtex connects with a nasty looking knee right to Richards's face.
Richards is trying to force a seperation but Fairtex has the dominant position.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Fairtex takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Richards misses with a hook from the clinch.
Fairtex has Richards pressed against the ropes.
Fairtex seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Fairtex gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.

and Fairtex counters with a head kick that drops Richards to the mat! Richards scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

and Fairtex holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the ropes, as the pace of the fight slows.
Richards doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Richards wants to stall.
Richards seems to have recovered his senses.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Fairtex for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Richards can't break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
