PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vince Cruise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Swick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Swick is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: A Little Less Conversation - Elvis Presley. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vince Cruise!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Swick!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Swick.
Cruise shoots for a takedown but Swick saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cruise tries to close the distance and clinch up but Swick swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cruise tries a head kick but it misses.
Cruise lands a glancing blow to the side of Swick's head.

Swick lands a left and a right that send Cruise crashing to the mat, dazed. Swick thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cruise tries to clinch up.
Cruise throws the left hand but Swick avoids the punch easily.
No luck for Cruise with that takedown attempt.
Cruise will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Swick moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Cruise scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cruise cracks Swick with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Swick with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Cruise clinches up against the ropes.

Swick manages to pull guard.
Cruise trying to control but Swick is working from the bottom.

Swick is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cruise is aware though and is defending well.
Cruise wants to control from the top but Swick keeps moving.
Swick wants to sweep but no luck.
Cruise trying to control but Swick is working from the bottom.
Cruise is looking to work some ground and pound but Swick has wrist control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Swick is trying to keep Cruise in close.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Cruise closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Swick manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Swick has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cruise can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cruise has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cruise controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Cruise trying to control but Swick is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cruise stands and throws Swick's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Swick is trying to improve his position.
Cruise working away.
Swick taking a bit of punishment here - Cruise scoring with strikes.
Cruise is looking to take a break and control but Swick is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Swick is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cruise is controlling him well.
Cruise trying to control the action but Swick is working from the bottom.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Swick is looking to reverse the position.

Cruise working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Swick is not content to let Cruise control the position.
Swick tries to improve position but can't.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cruise changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Swick tries to avoid it but Cruise manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Swick to the ground. Swick escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vince Cruise. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Swick pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Swick throws a head kick but Cruise moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Swick dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cruise dodges the punch combination from Swick.
Cruise is looking to clinch but Swick is avoiding it.
Swick throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Swick thows a body shot but no joy.
Swick loads up on a big right hand but Cruise slips the punch.
Cruise lands a nice shot that snaps Swick's head back.
Cruise dodges the punch combination from Swick.
Swick fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Cruise is out of range.
Cruise lands with a straight right. Swick didn't see that one coming.
A looping hook to the body misses from Swick. Cruise does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Cruise checks a leg kick.
Cruise swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Swick counters with a nice body shot.
Swick takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Cruise tries to clinch up.
Cruise tries to close the distance and clinch but Swick swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Swick misses with the combination.
Cruise throws a front kick aimed at Swick's knee but Swick avoids it well.
Swick throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Cruise shoots in looking for a takedown. Swick tries to sprawl out of it but Cruise keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Swick manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Swick finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Jake Swick is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Swick staying out of range there.
A slow jab from Swick misses its intended target.
Swick moves out of range of the strikes.
Some wild striking there from Swick.
Swick avoids the head kick by Cruise.
A head kick misses from Swick.
Cruise avoids the body shot from Swick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Swick throws a leg kick but Cruise moved away.
Cruise ducks under a wild hook from Swick.
Swick swings away with a body shot that misses

and Cruise decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Swick's guard.
Cruise forces his way into half guard.
Cruise seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Swick does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cruise is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Swick is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Swick is trying to maintain the position but Cruise is very close to passing his half guard.
Cruise throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Cruise is looking for a kimura but Swick is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cruise to get the leverage.
Swick is refusing to be controlled, as Cruise sits in half guard.
Swick pushes Cruise off looking to stand but Cruise dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Swick will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cruise shoots in but no luck this time.
Cruise clinches but Swick breaks the clinch
and Swick counters with a nice body kick.
Vince Cruise is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Swick throws a leg kick but Cruise sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Swick throws a combination that misses
and Cruise counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Cruise throws a right hand that Swick ducks under and follows up with a left that Swick also avoids with ease.
Swick misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cruise blocks a head kick by Swick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Vince Cruise will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Swick misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Swick punishes Cruise's body with a nice straight punch.
Swick staying out of range there.
Cruise has a takedown stuffed.
Cruise blocks a low kick nicely.

Cruise darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Swick has hold of Cruise's hands but Cruise slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Swick tries to get to full guard but Cruise has control of the leg.
Cruise wants to take a breather but Swick is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Swick is trying to maintain the position but Cruise is very close to passing his half guard.
Swick wants to get back to full guard.
Swick slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Swick takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Swick is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cruise working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Cruise throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cruise fails in his attempt to clinch.
Swick takes a swing at Cruise's ribcage but misses.
Swick misses with a body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Swick lands with a slapping head kick.
Cruise throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Swick stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Swick misses with a body punch
and Cruise counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cruise scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Cruise tries to clinch but Swick is having none of it.
Swick throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Cruise moves into the clinch.
Swick tries to pull guard but Cruise holds him up against the ropes and eventually Swick drops back down to his feet.

Swick breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jake Swick seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Swick fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cruise manages to avoid it.
Cruise with a lazy takedown attempt
and Swick counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Swick circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Swick needs to keep his hands up - Cruise had a free shot at his head there.
A low kick from Cruise is predictable there
and Swick counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Cruise is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Cruise shoots in looking for a takedown. Swick tries to sprawl out of it but Cruise keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Swick manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Cruise shoots in but Swick avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Swick ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Cruise throws a sloppy head kick and Swick moves out of range easily.
Cruise lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
A punch combination from Swick misses.
Swick throws a hook but Cruise avoids it easily.
Cruise lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Swick is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Cruise rather than just go for the knockout.

Cruise drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Swick looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cruise is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vince Cruise showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cruise has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
