And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Backman circles away.
Smith swats away the attempt to clinch by Backman.

Backman has managed to clinch.
Backman swings wildly with an uppercut but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.
Smith is working for takedown but Backman is calmly controlling the position for now.

Smith lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Smith thows a huge punch but Backman dodges it nicely.
Backman wants to sweep but Smith has passed to side control!

Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Backman tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it.
Smith wants to stand but Backman is controlling his arm.
Backman is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
Backman tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Backman is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Backman is looking to improve his position.

Smith decides to stand and escape the position.
A nice combination there by Backman.
Backman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but Backman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Backman lands a jab to the nose.

It looks like Matt Smith has been cut.
Jab by Backman.
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Backman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Backman with a nice cross.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Backman cracks a nice hook into Smith's ribs.
Smith looks gassed!
Smith takes a jab right on the kisser.
Backman cracks Smith with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Backman drops Smith with a beautiful combination! Smith stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Backman is looking for the KO!

Smith is rocked!
Backman measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Smith! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!
