Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Azevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patrick Reid has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Patrick Reid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Royce Azevedo!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reid tries for a takedown but Azevedo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Reid bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Azevedo is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Reid is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Azevedo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Azevedo tries to escape but Reid is in control.
Azevedo is looking to regain half guard here but Reid keeps moving and retains side control.
Reid will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Reid is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Azevedo has escaped the position, nice work there.
Reid is breathing heavily.
Reid wants to control but Azevedo is keeping him busy.
Azevedo tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Azevedo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Azevedo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Reid is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Azevedo reverses the position - he's now on top in Reid's guard.

Reid has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Azevedo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Azevedo wants to control from the top but Reid keeps moving.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Azevedo has eaten all the pies!
Azevedo won't allow Reid to sweep him here.
Azevedo wants to pass the guard but Reid is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Azevedo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reid not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Azevedo moves in looking to clinch but Reid pushes him off.

Reid closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Azevedo pushes Reid away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Reid gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Reid wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Azevedo, who protects the arm well.
Azevedo is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Reid is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Azevedo is in all sorts of trouble here.
Azevedo has given up his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Azevedo tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Reid is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Azevedo has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Azevedo wants to control but Reid is having none of it.

Reid with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Reid is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Azevedo can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Azevedo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Reid has hold of Azevedo's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Azevedo manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Reid is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Azevedo is surviving well by controlling Reid's body position as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Azevedo wants to control but Reid is having none of it.
Azevedo prevents Reid from taking his back.
Azevedo is in all sorts of trouble here.
Reid avoids the attempt from Azevedo to control.

Reid working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Reid working for a submission but Azevedo is keeping him at bay.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Reid fails to land with a series of punches.
Azevedo takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Reid misses with a takedown attempt - Azevedo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Azevedo stuffs the takedown attempt from Reid. Reid gets slowly back to his feet.

and Reid counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Reid.
Reid passes Azevedo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Reid prevents Azevedo from improving his position.
Azevedo trying to control from the bottom.

Reid is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Azevedo has managed to free his arm - good work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Azevedo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Azevedo working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Reid has passed into half guard!
Azevedo tries to get to full guard but Reid has control of the leg.

Reid is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Azevedo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Reid.

Reid is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Reid wants to take a breather but Azevedo is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Reid is thwarting Azevedo's attempts to control the position.

Reid wants to work for an arm triangle but Azevedo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Reid is pressing down on Azevedo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Azevedo is holding on for now.
Azevedo is not content to let Reid control the position.
Reid tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Reid shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Reid avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Reid is pushing down on Azevedo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Azevedo is fighting to maintain full guard but Reid has managed to sneak the leg through.

Reid is tying to control. Azevedo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Azevedo wants to control but Reid is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Reid is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Azevedo is just riding it out for now. Reid eventually gives up the hold.
Patrick Reid overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Reid blocks the strikes from Azevedo.

Reid has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Azevedo defend it? Reid steps over the head and cranks it - Azevedo is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Reid!
