Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Professor Avenarius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Steven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avenarius comes to the cage accompanied by Space Prophet Dogon, Sun City Girls. Steven has chosen "Hip To Be Square," by Huey Lewis and the News as his entrance music. Professor Avenarius could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Mike Steven's chin.

The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steven gets the takedown into side control.
Avenarius tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Steven wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Steven looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Steven wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Avenarius, who protects the arm well.

Steven has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Steven can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Avenarius is looking to escape.
Steven wants to finish this one by submission but Avenarius is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Steven.

Avenarius tries to reverse the position but Steven maintains control.
Avenarius wants to hold on but Steven pushes him away.

Steven seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Avenarius's chin but Avenarius turns very nicely into Steven's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Avenarius.

Steven swats away the attempt to clinch by Avenarius.

Oh Avenarius is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
It looks like Professor Avenarius has been cut.
Steven closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Steven is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Avenarius is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Steven tries to move to mount but Avenarius blocks the move with his legs.
Steven misses with the ground and pound.
Avenarius knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Steven on the ground.
Steven thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steven thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Steven has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Avenarius!
Steven goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Avenarius is on top in guard.

Steven looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Avenarius won't allow Steven to sweep him here.
Steven has his foot on Avenarius's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Avenarius works his way back into a safe position though.
Steven is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Steven wants to sweep but no luck.
Steven has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Avenarius can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mike Steven showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Professor Avenarius's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!
Avenarius throws a head kick but Steven moves out of range.
Steven will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Avenarius is looking to clinch but Steven is avoiding it.
Professor Avenarius is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Avenarius fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Avenarius throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Steven feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Steven looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Steven has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Steven working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Avenarius looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Steven! Submission of the night perhaps?
