PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tough Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Monfriesz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnny Monfriesz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guy stuffs the takedown attempt from Monfriesz. Monfriesz gets slowly back to his feet.
Johnny Monfriesz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Monfriesz moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

It looks like Tough Guy has been cut.

Monfriesz drops Guy with a left and a right! Oh, Guy is hurt - Monfriesz dives into side control looking to finish!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Monfriesz working the ground and pound but Guy is defending the strikes.
Monfriesz fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Monfriesz is looking to take a break and control but Guy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Guy regains half guard.
Guy is trying to stand back up but Monfriesz is controlling him

Monfriesz is taking a breather. Guy says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Monfriesz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guy keeps working.

Guy is trying to stand back up but Monfriesz is controlling him
Monfriesz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Monfriesz is keen to just control but Guy is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Monfriesz throws a combination. Guy tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Monfriesz takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Monfriesz shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Guy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Guy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Monfriesz on the ground.
Guy wants to stand up but Monfriesz is controlling him.

Monfriesz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Monfriesz drops back looking for a leg! Guy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Guy manages to kick Monfriesz off! Monfriesz jumps back into Guy's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Monfriesz lands strikes from half guard.
Monfriesz with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Monfriesz not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Monfriesz is looking to take a break and control but Guy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Despite being in the dominant position, Johnny Monfriesz just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Monfriesz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monfriesz scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Guy doesn't seem bothered though.
