PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Payne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Carwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Victor Payne!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Steve Montenegro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Shane Carwin has been cut.
Payne throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Payne throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Carwin stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Carwin is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Payne keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Payne cracks Carwin with a big right hand and Carwin goes down!


Carwin is rocked!
Carwin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Carwin tries to get out of the position.

Payne drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Payne jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Payne stays in close to Carwin's body and controls the position.
Payne passes Carwin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Payne is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Carwin!

Payne is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Carwin has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Payne tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carwin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Payne on the ground.

Payne has hold of Carwin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Carwin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Payne controlling the position easily from mount.

Payne is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Carwin fails with an attempt to clinch.

Carwin looks to throw the jab but Payne is out of range.

Payne has taken the fight to the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Payne creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Payne manages to break the clinch.
Payne throws a right and a left that both miss.
Victor Payne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Payne throws a hook but Carwin blocks it.
Payne looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Payne chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Carwin shoots for a double leg takedown but Payne sprawls well. He's pushed Carwin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Payne throws a sloppy head kick and Carwin moves out of range easily.
Carwin dodges the punch combination from Payne.
Victor Payne is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Payne lands a lovely overhand right.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Payne is looking to clinch but Carwin is avoiding it.
Payne stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Payne wants it to stay on the feet.
Carwin misses with a combination
and Payne counters with a head kick. That will keep Carwin thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Carwin takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Payne works over Carwin's head and body with a nice combination.

Payne drives through and clinches with Carwin against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carwin jumps guard but Payne stands there with Carwin around his waist. Carwin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane Carwin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Payne breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Payne keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Carwin walks into a left hand.
Payne cracks Carwin with a hook to the temple - Carwin is on wobbly legs here! Payne swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Carwin falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Payne wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Victor Payne!
