PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathaniel Tabares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is "Stand your ground" by Acarine. Tabares is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: your a jerk. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tommy Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nathaniel Tabares!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Russell Pearce and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sanchez.
Tabares keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt - Tabares sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sanchez is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Tabares stands up from mount. Strange move.

Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tabares swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Tabares counters with a single leg into guard. Sanchez didn't expect that.
Tabares pushes down on Sanchez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Tabares drops an elbow to the side of Sanchez's head.
Tabares tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sanchez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tabares looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sanchez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sanchez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tabares is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Tabares is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sanchez won't allow Tabares to pass to mount.
Sanchez wants to control but Tabares is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Tabares works his way into full mount!
Sanchez is desperately trying to improve his position but Tabares has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Tabares tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sanchez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tabares somewhat.
Sanchez shoots and misses

and Tabares counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sanchez's guard now.

Sanchez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tabares is aware though and is defending well.
Tabares controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Tabares decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sanchez, up you get!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Tabares ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Tabares no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Nathaniel Tabares showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Tabares bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Tabares stands up and beckons Sanchez to his feet.

Sanchez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tabares is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Sanchez.

Well Tabares has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
